Upper Outer A-Pillar Paneling Installation - Ar63.20-P-1105-03RGR

IMPORTANT Further information can be found in the superordinate service document. Comply with safety information in superordinate customer service document.

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage, these steps must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle. Replace self-pierce rivets installed in vehicle by high-strength flow form rivets according to clamping range.

  1. Install and fit in place new upper A-pillar outer paneling part (1) and windshield.

    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

    IMPORTANTOnly  fit windshield, do not  install and bond.

  2. Check gap dimensions on windshield using a SPECIAL TOOL feeler gauge and adjust. HAND-HELD TESTER
  3. Fix in place new upper A-pillar outer paneling part (1).
  4. Remove windshield.

    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

  5. Prepare upper A-pillar outer paneling (1) with rivet press tool (areas C1 and D1).

    IMPORTANT Transfer present positions for rivet connections from vehicle to new part. In the case of new part to new part connections, adapt these and prepare together.

  6. Remove upper A-pillar outer paneling (1).
  7. On upper A-pillar outer paneling (1), apply the 2-component adhesive (cross-hatched areas).

    IMPORTANT Observe manufacturer's specification for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  8. Install top A-pillar outer paneling (1), fit and fix in place.
  9. Rivet upper A-pillar outer paneling (1) with a rivet press tool and flow-form rivets or Rivet the flow-form rivets (areas C2 and D2).

    IMPORTANT Use flow-form rivets with structure 4 mm to 5.15 mm clamping range (S38) or flow-form rivets with structure 5.0 mm to 6.1 mm clamping range (S48).

  10. Tack weld upper A-pillar outer paneling (1) with welder (SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD ) (areas A1 and B1).

    IMPORTANT When MIG welding (SHIELDED GAS PLUG WELD ) prepare welds by grinding down to bare metal with stainless steel brush. Weld seams must  be tack welded at start, end and every approx. 4 cm.

  11. Check weld seam gaps.

    IMPORTANT Check all weld seam gaps before start of welding. The weld seam gap may not be greater than 1 mm, where required use a body weld.

  12. Weld upper A-pillar outer paneling (1) with welder (SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD ) (areas A1 and B1).

    IMPORTANT When MIG welding (SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD ), prepare welds by grinding down to bare metal with stainless steel brush directly before welding. Tack weld seams at start, end and approx. every 4 cm. Weld seam gap should not be greater than 1 mm; if required, create a pre-seam.

  13. Level welds at upper A-pillar outer paneling (1) and restore surface (areas A1 and B1).
  14. Remove shavings using wet/dry vacuum cleaner.
