(Video Mode, Function - GF82.85-P-2040GR)
MODEL 166 up to model year 2016 with CODE 512 (COMAND APS with DVD changer)
MODEL 166 up to model year 2016 with CODE 527 (COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))
MODEL 166 up to model year 2016 with CODE 528 (COMAND with DVD changer)
Function requirements, general
- Status circuit 30g ON
- A video DVD is inserted into the DVD/CD magazine of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
- Transport mode not active
Video mode, general
The DVD drive of the COMAND controller unit supports playback of video DVDs. Here, the video image is shown on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) after the "Video" menu and the "DVD Video" submenu have been activated.
The system can be operated using the:
- Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9): The control signals are sent via telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit.
- COMAND controller unit operating panels: The signals are processed internally.
- Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111): The control signals are forwarded from the steering wheel electronics (N135) via the steering LIN (LIN E1), steering column tube module control unit (N80), chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1), electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) to the instrument cluster (A1) and sent from there via interior CAN (CAN B) to the COMAND controller unit.
- Remote control (A8/7) (with CODE 816 (Entertainment remote control) or with CODE 867 (SPLITVIEW): The COMAND controller unit reads in the signals of the remote control via the integrated infrared interface.
Function sequence for video mode
The video signals are transmitted via a separate video line to the COMAND controller unit. The COMAND controller unit transmits the video data to the audio/COMAND display via a low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line.
In vehicles without CODE 810 (Sound system) and CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the audio output is carried out by the COMAND controller unit via the speaker system.
In vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the audio signals are forwarded via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), where they are amplified and output via the speaker system.
More detailed information on the speaker system is available in the "Speaker output function" document.
When the video mode is activated using the remote control (with CODE 816 (Entertainment remote control) or with CODE 867 (SPLITVIEW)), the audio signals are forwarded by the COMAND controller unit over a direct line to the electrical connector of the headphones (cabled) (X39/6) or sent over the integrated radio interface to the radio frequency headphones (H8/3).
Except on vehicles with code 867 (SPLITVIEW), the video DVD function is only available when the vehicle is at a standstill. Only acoustic playback is active while driving for safety reasons, and a warning appears on the audio/COMAND display.
