Function sequence
The ETC/DSRC antenna (A2/94) and the Electronic Toll Collection control unit (A50/3) are installed in the vehicle for transmitting and receiving the data. The Electronic Toll Collection control unit communicates with the toll booth via the ETC/DSRC antenna. For automatic payment a special ETC card must be inserted into the Electronic Toll Collection control unit. All information concerning the user and the fees that have already been paid are stored on this card. At the vehicle side, the Electronic Toll Collection control unit is connected to the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) via an RS-232C interface. The ETC also has voice output and visual output.
Voice output takes place when:
- a read error occurs in the ETC card
- the ETC card is not accepted
- an error occurs in the ETC card reader
- a communication error occurs in the ETC gate
- detailed information is present on recent toll payments
- the ETC is not inserted
Visual outputs (pop-ups) appear on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) when:
- Booted COMAND controller unit and ETC card not inserted
- Booted COMAND controller unit and ETC card inserted
- Positive feedback from toll booth
- Negative feedback from toll booth (e.g. no authorization)
