Function requirements for voice control system, general

Voice control system, general

Many driver information system functions can be called up and operated via the voice control system (VCS [SBS]). The voice control system is integrated in the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). The voice control system can be operated by spelling out or entering complete words.

Voice control system function sequence

The voice control system is switched on using the voice control system on button (S111s4) and switched off using the "Back" and voice control system off (S110s4) buttons.

The control signal is forwarded by the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) or the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) via the following route:

Steering wheel electronics (N135) →

Steering LIN (LIN E1) →

Steering column tube module control unit (N80) →

Chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) →

Electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) →

Chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) →

Instrument cluster (A1) →

Interior CAN (CAN B) →

COMAND control unit

Voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1), which is connected to the COMAND controller unit via a direct line. The words spoken into the hands-free system microphone group are converted into an electrical signal and forwarded to the COMAND controller unit.

The voice output of the voice control system in dialog with the user is output via the speaker system of the vehicle by the COMAND controller unit in vehicles except CODE 810 (Sound system) and CODE 811 (Advanced sound system).

In vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the COMAND controller unit forwards the voice output via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) which actuates the speaker system.
