Function requirements for video operation in general 

• Status circuit 30g ON
• Video DVD inserted into the DVD tray of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3)
• Transport mode not active
• No smartphone connected via CarPlay to the multimedia connection unit (A90/5)

Video mode, general 

The DVD drive of the COMAND controller unit supports playback of video DVDs. The video picture here is shown on the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) once the media source has been activated. The system can be operated using the following components:

• Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9): The control signals are sent via telematics CAN (CAN A) to the COMAND controller unit.
• Touchpad (A105): The control signals are sent via telematics CAN to the COMAND controller unit.
• COMAND controller unit operating panels: The signals are processed internally.
• Left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111): The control signals are forwarded from the steering wheel electronics (N135) via the steering LIN (LIN E1), steering column tube module control unit (N80), chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1), electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) to the instrument cluster (A1) and sent from there via interior CAN (CAN B) to the COMAND controller unit.

Function sequence for video mode 

The COMAND controller unit sends the image data to the Audio/COMAND display over a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) line. In vehicles except CODE 810 (Sound system) and except CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the audio is output by the COMAND controller unit over the speaker system. In vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the audio signals are forwarded via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3), where they are amplified and output via the speaker system.

The video DVD function is only available for a stationary vehicle. Only acoustic playback is active while driving for safety reasons, and a warning appears on the audio/COMAND display. The COMAND controller unit receives the vehicle speed signal via interior CAN from the instrument cluster.
