Windshield Wiping And Washing, Basic Function - GF82.30-P-9900A

Model all (CAR)

General

The windshield wiper and washer system consists of a parallel windshield wiper system with wiper motor, a windshield washer system pump, a washer fluid reservoir, the spray nozzle hoses and the spray nozzles.

The parallel windshield wiper system with reversing motor enables wiping up to very close to the driver's side A-pillar.

The wiping frequency can be adjusted to the degree of wetting of the windshield.

The windshield washer system pump pumps the washer fluid through several spray nozzles on to the windshield.

The windshield wipers wipe the water and partially dissolved dirt from the windshield.

On vehicles with combustion engine, the windshield wipe and wash function is interrupted or not permitted during engine starting.

Vehicles with heated windshield washer system

In order to guarantees trouble-free operation also at low temperatures, the following components are heated:

Function requirement

Wipe windshield

The wiping frequency and wiping speed can be defined using the combination switch on the steering column:

IMPORTANTAutomatic speed reduction

It is assumed that the windshield does not become as wet at slow speeds.

If there is deceleration of more than 6 to under 3 km/h, the system reduces the predefined wiper speed at switch position 3 or 4.

Wash windshield

Washing is activated by pressing the combination switch beyond the engagement point.

In addition to wiping, the system actuates the windshield washer system pump for max. 15 s.

During washing, wiping takes place at the wiper speed set on the combination switch.

At switch position 0, wiping is carried out as in switch position 3.

In switch position 0, another one to max. three wipes are carried out after the washing finishes.

Wiper operation suppression

The wiper startup suppression function prevents people from being sprayed with water due to a wiping process initiated when they are getting into or out of the vehicle.

The wiper startup suppression function is active if the following conditions are fulfilled:

When a front door is opened, the windshield wipers remain in the park position despite a wipe request triggered manually or automatically.

Any wiping procedure that has already started is terminated.

If the driver's door and front passenger door are closed and a drive range is selected or the clutch is operated, the wiper startup suppression function is deactivated.

Wipe and wash stop

The wipe and wash stop function prevents the moving wiper arms from causing damage to the vehicle with the hood open.

If the hood is opened at a vehicle speed of less than 3 km/h, the system immediately cancels any actuation.

If the hood is open, wiping can be carried out again as of a vehicle speed of 6 km/h.

As of a vehicle speed of 8 km/h, washing is also possible again.
