Telephone, Basic Function - GF82.70-P-9902A

Model all (CAR)

General

The telephone function makes it possible to establish telephone connections in the vehicle. The telephone function is operated via the multimedia system's display and control elements, the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel or via the mobile phone. The telephone calls are conducted via the hands-free system and the speaker system. Here, it is primarily the speakers in front area of the vehicle that are actuated. In some markets, the multimedia system also optionally uses the mobile connections for data transfer for the Internet function. The connected devices can also be used for music playback.

Telephony

To establish a telephone connection in the vehicle, there are the following options:

IMPORTANT Irrespective of the telephony in the rear, telephony can also be operated from the rear passenger compartment on vehicles with Rear Seat Entertainment System or tablet PC.

The telephone function supports the following functions:

If there is an active telephone connection, the multimedia system switches the current audio source to mute.

Bluetooth® coupling

Additional function requirements:

A device is coupled via Bluetooth® in two steps:

The multimedia system can save authorizations for up to 15 mobile phones. Mobile phone authorization is only necessary once for each mobile phone. Exception: When authorizing a 16th device, authorization for the telephone not used for the longest time is deleted.

The multimedia system automatically reconnects authorized mobile phones. The multimedia system automatically searches for all authorized mobile phones and connects to the mobile phones in the sequence of the last used. In two phone mode, the "second telephone" is also automatically reconnected. Bluetooth® audio equipment is also reconnected, provided that the current media source is Bluetooth® audio.

The user can also establish the connection to authorized mobile phones manually via the multimedia system.

Depending on the vehicle equipment, two mobile phones can be connected at the same time for making phone calls. An additional mobile phone can be connected via Bluetooth® for media mode.

On vehicles with mobile phone cradle, the following functions are possible via NFC (near-field communication):

Telephony via the telephone control unit

The telephone control unit connects here as a Bluetooth® telephone to the multimedia system control. Telephony can be undertaken via the telephone control unit in the following operating modes:

Two phone mode

It is possible to connect two mobile phones at the same time using two phone mode. During two phone mode, the full functional scope is operable via the multimedia system on the mobile phone selected as the "first telephone".

The following functions are operable via the multimedia system with the current "second telephone":

The user can swap the "first telephone" and "second telephone" at any time using the multimedia system's control and display elements.

Car antenna connection

In the following situations, the multimedia system receives and transmits the mobile phone signals via the vehicle's telephone antennas:

Depending on the model and equipment installed, one or more antenna splitters and/or antenna changeover switches forward the antenna signals to the telephone control unit or to the mobile phone cradle control unit.

For mobile phone connection via the mobile phone cradle control unit, a cellular telephone system antenna amplifier/compensator also amplifies the antenna signals. The antenna signals are transferred between the mobile phone cradle and the mobile phone by a capacitive coupling.

Messaging (SMS)

The messaging function provides the following functions:

The multimedia system uses the Bluetooth® MAP profile for communication.

The multimedia system limits the length of the text displayed while driving.

Contacts

The address book in the multimedia system shows the following contacts:

There are the following options for adding contacts to the address book in the multimedia system:

The multimedia system supports the import of contacts in vCard format. If contact synchronization is switched on, then the multimedia system automatically imports the mobile phone's contacts.

Ring tone

If the mobile phone supports in-band ringing, the multimedia system outputs the mobile phone's ring tone. Otherwise it outputs the set ring tone.

Manual telephone favorites

For quick access, up to 15 favorites can be manually added in the telephone main menu of the multimedia system.

Relationships

The relationships function makes it possible to save the relationships of contacts to people (e.g. nicknames). If voice control does not recognize a person (e.g. "call my mom"), voice control will ask which contact the name should be assigned to. The relationship between the name and the contact is then stored in the multimedia system as a relationship.
