Function requirements for DVD changer function, general

DVD changer function, general

The DVD changer is integrated into the head unit and contains a cartridge for up to six CDs or DVDs. The DVD changer can be accessed through a cutout in the upper control panel control unit.

The DVD changer enables the following function sequences to be performed:

Load CD or DVD function sequence

When the DVD changer load button on the upper control panel control unit is pressed, the menu is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display. The desired submenu can be selected by turning or pressing the Audio/COMAND controller on the Audio/COMAND control panel to the left or right. The selection can be corrected using the "Back" button. Selection is confirmed by pressing vertically onto the Audio/COMAND controller. Operation is also possible via the touchpad (as of 01.06.2015 with code 448 (Touchpad), or up to 31.05.2015 with code 498 (Japan version)). A CD or DVD must not be inserted until the corresponding request to do so appears on the Audio/COMAND display, e.g. "Please insert Disc 2". After inserting the CD or DVD into the CD/DVD drive, the Audio/COMAND display shows a message, e.g. "Disc 2 loading...".

IMPORTANT The duration of the loading process can vary depending on the type of data storage device involved.

Once the CD or DVD is loaded, the display changes back to the menu. If no CD or DVD is inserted, the display also changes back to the menu after approx. 20 s. A loaded CD or DVD is shown in the menu. Several CDs or DVDs can be loaded one after the other. A CD or DVD must not be inserted until the corresponding request to do so appears on the Audio/COMAND display, e.g. "Please insert Disc 3". The head unit loads the empty magazine slots, one after the other.

The control signals from the upper control panel control unit are forwarded as follows:

LCP LIN →

Audio/COMAND control panel →

Telematics CAN →

Head unit

The head unit receives the signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel via telematics CAN.

The signals from the touchpad (as of 01.06.2015 with code 448 (Touchpad), or up to 31.05.2015 with code 498 (Japan version)) are received by the head unit via the telematics CAN.

The head unit sends the display messages over a low voltage differential signaling line to the audio/COMAND display.

Eject CD or DVD function sequence

When the DVD changer load button on the upper control panel control unit is pressed, the menu is displayed on the Audio/COMAND display. The desired submenu can be selected by turning or pressing the Audio/COMAND controller on the Audio/COMAND control panel to the left or right. The selection can be corrected using the "Back" button. Selection is confirmed by pressing vertically onto the Audio/COMAND controller. Operation is also possible via the touchpad (as of 01.06.2015 with code 448 (Touchpad), or up to 31.05.2015 with code 498 (Japan version)). While the CD or DVD is ejected, a message appears in the Audio/COMAND display (e.g. "Disc 2 being ejected..."). As soon as the CD or DVD appears in the disc slot, an appropriate message is shown (e.g. "Please remove disc 2"). Once the CD or DVD is removed, the display changes back to the "Cartridge menu". If the CD or DVD is not removed, the CD or DVD is loaded again.

The "Eject all" menu enables all the loaded CDs or DVDs to be removed one after the other. As soon as the CD or DVD appears in the disc slot, a corresponding message, e.g. "Please remove disc 3", is displayed. Once the CD or DVD has been removed from the drive slot, the next CD or DVD is ejected until the DVD magazine is empty. An ejected CD or DVD is shown in the "Cartridge menu" as an empty DVD slot.

IMPORTANT The ejection procedure can be stopped at any time by pressing the DVD changer load button on the upper control panel control unit or by pressing the "Back" button on the Audio/COMAND control panel.

The control signals from the upper control panel control unit are forwarded as follows:

LCP LIN →
