Information on installability of touchpad
The touchpad is installed in two variants.
Variant (with code 448 (Touchpad)): The touchpad is installed together with the Audio/COMMAND control panel. The touchpad is connected only to the telematics CAN.
Variant 2 (with code 446 (Touchpad only)): The touchpad is installed instead of the Audio/COMMAND control panel. In this case, the upper control panel control unit, the left lower control panel and right lower control panel are connected to the touchpad via UBF-LIN. The touchpad is also connected to the telematics CAN.
Function requirements for video operation in general
- Circuit 30t ON status
- Transport mode not active
- No smartphone is connected via the Android Auto or CarPlay standard.
Video mode
The head unit supports playback of videos, including compressed video data, from the Internet. The video image is shown on the Audio/COMMAND display. The head unit is responsible for the required processing of the video data for displaying the images on the Audio/COMMAND display.
The Internet browser is not able to play back flash videos. The video function can be operated using the:
- Lower control panel (volume control) or upper control panel control unit (menu) (with code 246 (Analog clock))
The respective lower control panel transmits the signal of the volume control button and the upper control panel control unit transmits the operation signals to the head unit via the LCP-LIN, Audio/COMMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)) or Touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only)) and the telematics CAN.
- Audio/COMMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only))
The Audio/COMMAND control panel transmits the control signals via telematics CAN to the head unit.
- Touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only) or with code 448 (Touchpad))
The touchpad transmits the operation signals over the telematics CAN to the head unit.
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
The steering wheel electronics reads the control signals directly. The steering wheel electronics transmit these as of 01.06.2018 via the steering wheel CAN, up to 31.05.2018 via the steering LIN to the steering column tube module control unit and from there via the suspension FlexRay, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster transmits the control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups to the head unit via the user interface CAN.
The head unit reads in the video data and sends the processed data for display over the HSVL line to the Audio/COMMAND display.
Audio is output depending on the equipment variant:
- On vehicles except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced Sound System) and except AMG vehicles as of 01.06.2018, the head unit controls the audio output via the speaker system.
- In vehicles with code 810 (Sound system), the head unit sends the audio signals over MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit. The sound system amplifier control unit amplifies these and outputs the audio via the speaker system.
- In vehicles with code 811 (Advanced sound system), the head unit sends the audio signals over MOST to the Advanced sound system amplifier control unit. The advanced sound system amplifier control unit amplifies these and controls the audio output via the speaker system.
On AMG vehicles as of 01.06.2018 except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced Sound System), the head unit sends the audio signals as well as the volume and tone settings via MOST to the Midline sound system amplifier control unit, which then actuates the speaker system.
