Information on touchpad
The touchpad is installed in two variants.
Variant (with code 448 (Touchpad)): The touchpad is installed together with the Audio/COMMAND control panel. The touchpad is connected only to the telematics CAN.
Variant 2 (with code 446 (Touchpad only)): The touchpad is installed instead of the Audio/COMMAND control panel. In this case, the upper control panel control unit, the left lower control panel and right lower control panel are connected to the touchpad via UBF-LIN. The touchpad is also connected to the telematics CAN.

TV mode
The TV tuner control unit enables the reception of digital television programs. The program contents are shown in the audio/COMMAND display.
The head unit can be switched on using the "ON" button in the respective lower control panel. The lower control panel transmits the status of the "ON" button to the head unit via the LCP-LIN, Audio/COMMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)) or touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only)) and telematics CAN.
Vehicles without CODE (498) Japan version
The TV programs are received according to the Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T, DVB-T2) standard in the range from 470 to 700 MHz. In addition to the MPEG-2 video compression standard, MPEG-4 and MPEG-H (H.265) are also supported.
Encrypted programs can be received with a CI+ (Common Interface Plus) module.
The TV tuner control unit currently has the following functionalities:
- Video text (pages: 100 to 899)
- Station list of channels currently receivable
- Last settings
- National settings
- Info (information on currently selected stations)
Video text function: Some stations, primarily in central Europe, also offer video text along with their TV programs. To this end, the TV tuner control unit is equipped with a separate video text decoder. Only video text broadcast with Latin ASCII characters are supported, i.e. Greek or Cyrillic characters are not supported.
Vehicles with CODE 498 (Japan version)
With digital TV reception the "one-segment" substandard (TV standard for mobile telephony) is also supported in addition to the "full-segment" substandard.
The TV tuner control unit has the following functionalities:
- Digital image storage
- Last settings
- Broadcast Markup Language (BML): The TV tuner control unit supports video text for all the available Japanese TV stations. This enables information to be shown similar to a small website on weather, news, etc. By selecting a region in the setting list you can obtain region-specific information.
- Electronic Program Guide (EPG): The EPG shows information such as the start and end of broadcasts along with detailed information on the television program for each TV station.
- Bilingual: Two languages are supported depending on station availability, e.g. Japanese on the main sound track and English on the sub sound track.
The TV functions can be operated using the following controls:
- Multifunction steering wheel button groups
With the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group, the TV functions can be operated, as of 01.06.2018 including volume control, via the volume adjustment switch. In vehicles up to 31.05.2018, the volume can be set at the instrument cluster multifunction steering wheel button group via the volume control button.
The steering wheel electronics read in the operation signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups directly. The steering wheel electronics transmit the operation signals as of 01.06.2018 via the steering wheel CAN, up to 31.05.2018 via the steering LIN to the steering column tube module control unit and from there via the suspension FlexRay, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster transmits the control signals of the multifunction steering wheel button groups to the head unit via the user interface CAN.
- Audio/COMMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only))
The TV functions can be operated using the audio/COMMAND controller and the "Back" button on the Audio/COMMAND control panel.
The Audio/COMMAND control panel transmits the control signals via telematics CAN to the head unit.
- Touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only))
The touchpad can be used to operate the tv functions. The touchpad transmits the operation signals over the telematics CAN to the head unit.
- Upper control panel control unit (with code 246 (Analog clock)), lower control panel
The TV functions can be activated on the upper control panel control unit. The volume can be adjusted via the volume control button at the respective lower control panel. The upper control panel control unit and the lower control panel transmit the operation signals to the head unit via LCP-LIN, Audio/COMMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)) or touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only)) and telematics CAN.
The TV tuner control unit splits up the video and audio signals that are contained in the TV signals.
The TV mode function comprises the following subfunctions:
- Receipt of TV signals
- Output of video signals
- Audio signal output
Receipt of TV signals
TV 1 signals are received via the rear window antenna (model 213.0/1) or the windshield antenna (model 213.2) and forwarded to the TV tuner control unit via the TV 1 and DAB band III antenna amplifier. TV 2 signals are received by the rear window antenna and forwarded to the TV tuner control unit via the TV 2 and DAB band III antenna amplifier (model 213.0/1) or the FM 2, DAB and TV 2 antenna amplifier (model 213.2).
TV 3 signals are received by the windshield antenna and forwarded to the TV tuner control unit via the TV 3 antenna amplifier. The TV tuner control unit processes the TV signals and separates the video signals from the audio signals.
Output of video signals
The TV program contents are shown in the audio/COMMAND display The TV tuner control unit sends the video signals over MOST, head unit and the HSVL line to the audio/COMMAND display. The head unit also transmits control signals to the Audio/COMMAND display via the telematics CAN.
Audio signal output
The audio signals are output via the speaker system. The TV tuner control unit sends the audio signals over MOST to the head unit. The head unit amplifies the audio signals and outputs them directly or sends them to one of the following devices via MOST:
- Advanced sound system amplifier control unit (with CODE 811 (Advanced Sound System))
- Midline sound system amplifier control unit (AMG vehicles as of 01.06.2018 except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced sound system))
- Sound system amplifier control unit (with code 810 (Sound system))
