The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the status of circuit 15 via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit (N10/6) and the rear SAM control unit (N10/8).
Substitute lamp actuation/emergency light actuation, general
The substitute lamp actuation/emergency light actuation ensures operation of the minimum exterior lighting in the event of failure of individual system components for the vehicle's exterior lights.
The substitute lamp actuation/emergency light actuation consists of the following subfunctions:

The rear SAM control unit continuously monitors the function of the vehicle's rear lighting.
In the event of failure of the left rear turn signal light (E3e1) in the left rear lamp unit (E3), the rear SAM control unit actuates the left brake light (E3e4) (except code 631 (Static left-hand traffic LED headlamp) and except code 632 (Static right-hand traffic LED headlamp) and except code P35 (Light package)) or the upper left brake light (E3e23) (with code 631 (Static left-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code 632 (Static right-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code P35 (Light package)) (flashing).
In the event of failure of the right rear turn signal light (E4e1) in the right rear lamp unit (E4), the rear SAM control unit actuates the right brake light (E4e4) (except code 631 (Static left-hand traffic LED headlamp) and except code 632 (Static right-hand traffic LED headlamp) and except code P35 (Light package)) or the upper right brake light (E4e23) (with code 631 (Static left-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code 632 (Static right-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code P35 (Light package)) (flashing).
A failure of the rear turn signal light is shown on the instrument cluster (A1). To this end, the rear SAM control unit sends corresponding information via interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster.
Function sequence for emergency light actuation
If the interior CAN or the periphery CAN (CAN PER) (with code 631 (Static left-hand traffic LED headlamps) or code 632 (Static right-hand traffic LED headlamps) or code P35 (Lights package)) is defective, the front SAM control unit and the rear SAM control unit activate a software emergency light. The rear SAM control unit actuates the taillights and the brake lights (depending on the status of circuit 54). The front SAM control unit activates the standing lights and low beams.
If the rain/light sensor with additional functions (B38/2) fails or communication with the rain/light sensor with additional functions fails, the front SAM control unit activates the auto on/off driving lights.
Vehicles with LED headlamps (with code 631 (Static left-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code 632 (Static right-hand traffic LED headlamp) or code P35 (Light package))
The left headlamp control unit (E1n9), the left front lamp unit LED matrix control unit (E1n11), the right headlamp control unit (E2n9) and the right front lamp unit LED matrix control unit (E2n11) are supplied with voltage by the front SAM control unit via circuit 30L. The power supply takes place in a crosswise sequence.
If the front SAM control unit is defective, a circuit 30L is missing or a driver has failed, then the low beams are actuated at one side of the vehicle, for example, and the standing lights are actuated at the other side.
