Front axle transmission 4MATIC, general
The front axle transmission is designed as a single-speed differential with fuel-efficient technology (fuel economy). The housing of the front axle transmission is made of aluminum and screwed on to the engine oil pan through a carrier (7). The drive pinion (2) is at an angle of 83° to the ring gear (3) so as to adjust the angular course of the propeller shaft to the front axle transmission. The ring gear (3) is attached on the engine side and screwed on to the differential gear cage for the differential (4). This location of components of the front axle transmission causes the direction of rotation, which is changed due to the single-speed side output in the transfer case, to reverse.
