Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 via the interior CAN to the reversing camera control unit.

The trunk lid rotary tumbler switch of the central locking motor for the trunk lid records the status of the trunk lid. The status of the trunk lid rotary tumbler switch is read in by the rear SAM control unit and sent via the interior CAN.

IMPORTANT If the trunk lid is not closed, a warning message is superimposed on the image shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

Reversing camera, general

The reversing camera allows the driver to choose between the following parking modes:

The corresponding selection takes place at the operating level of the COMAND controller unit. The last selected mode of parking is activated by engaging gear range "R". In addition, voice assistance can be activated when parallel parking.

IMPORTANT The operating instructions for parking can be found in separate information called "Reversing camera (RFK) operating instructions".

Reversing camera function sequence

The reversing camera is activated by engaging gear range "R".

The request to engage gear range "R" is defined by the corresponding selector lever position. The position is output on the drive train CAN by the electronic selector lever module control unit and forwarded from the ME-SFI control unit via the chassis CAN to the front SAM control unit. The front SAM control unit transmits the "reverse gear engaged" status via the interior CAN to the reversing camera control unit. The reversing camera control unit then supplies power to the reversing camera. The images captured by the reversing camera are read in and processed as a Color Video Baseband Signal (CVBS) signal by the reversing camera control unit.

On the basis of the steering angle and stored vehicle parameters, the reversing camera control unit calculates guide lines which are superimposed on the captured images. The steering angle is recorded by the steering angle sensor. The steering column tube module control unit reads in the signals from the steering angle sensor directly and sends them to the front SAM control unit via the chassis CAN. The front SAM control unit routes this over the interior CAN to the reversing camera control unit. The reversing camera control unit transmits the processed pictures as a Composite Video Baseband Signal to the COMAND controller unit. The COMAND controller unit then activates the Audio/COMAND display over the telematics CAN (CAN A). The pictures processed by the reversing camera control unit are then sent directly via the low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display and output there.
