Remove/Install Transmission With Torque Converter - AR27.10-P-0500MSA

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.		 AS00.00-Z-0017-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.		 AS00.40-Z-0001-01A
  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
  Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts   AH00.00-N-0001-01A
  Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge   AH54.00-P-0001-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238 with engine 256 AR00.60-P-0100CW
    Transmission 725.0 in model 257, 290 with engine 256 AR00.60-P-0100-01A
2 Shift the transmission (1) into neutral position.    
3 Release parking brake.    
4 Disconnect ground line on battery. Transmission 725.0 in model 213 with engine 256 AR54.10-P-0003LW
    Transmission 725.0 in model 238 with engine 256 AR54.10-P-0003LWO
    Transmission 725.0 in model 257, 290 with engine 256 AR54.10-P-0003FR
5 Remove center and rear lower engine compartment lining. Transmission 725.0 in model 290 with engine 256 AR61.20-P-1105FRX
    Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238 with engine 256 AR61.20-P-1105LWE
    Transmission 725.0 in model 257 with engine 256 AR61.20-P-1105FR
6 Remove front axle differential propeller shaft (4) from front axle differential. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 with engine 256 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

7 Disconnect and remove ground line (2).    
8 Remove heat shield from transmission (1).   AR27.40-P-0700-01LF
9 Release, disconnect and remove electrical connector of transmission (1).    
10 Remove oil lines.   AR27.55-P-0600MSA
11 Remove oil cooler from transmission (1), place to one side with connected coolant hoses and secure.   AR27.55-P-1000MSA
12 Remove propeller shaft. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238 with engine 256 AR41.10-P-0050LW
    Transmission 725.0 in model 257 with engine 256 AR41.10-P-0050MSA
    Transmission 725.0 in model 290 with engine 256 AR41.10-P-0050MNI
13 Remove cover (3).    
14 Remove fan unit. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 with engine 256.9 AR20.40-P-5050MSA
15 Detach torque converter (10) from integrated starter-alternator (A79). NOTES
Do not use an impact wrench or compressed air tool to remove the bolts.
Otherwise, the threaded unions (14) in the integrated starter-alternator (A79) will be damaged.		 AR27.20-P-0001-01EWM

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS		 Support transmission (1) with major-assembly support and mounting plate and strap down securely.

17 Remove rear engine carrier from underbody. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 with engine 256.9
NOTES
Never use an impact wrench or compressed-air tool to remove the screws! Otherwise, the threads may be damaged.		 AR22.10-P-4360MSA
18 Remove holder of 48 V wiring harness from transmission (1).    
19 Remove screws (19).

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS		 Remove transmission (1) with torque converter (10) and front axle differential propeller shaft (4).

Secure the torque converter (10) to prevent it from dropping down. Damage will otherwise occur.		 WS26.00-P-3309B
21 Remove torque converter (10). If necessary. AR27.20-P-0050EWM
22 Remove front axle differential propeller shaft (4) from transmission (1). Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 with engine 256 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) If necessary.  
23 Remove corrosion from crankshaft.   AR03.20-P-1000-01A
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
    Multi-purpose paste *BR00.45-Z-1009-06A 
24 Remove seal (15) between transmission (1) and timing case cover.    
25 Check threaded unions (14). If threaded unions (14) are damaged or loose,
↓
replace integrated starter alternator (A79).

REMOVING Install     
26 Position seal (15) between transmission (1) and timing case cover. IMPORTANT Replace seal (15).  
27 Insert torque converter (10). After removing the torque converter (10). AR27.20-P-0050EWM

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS		 Install transmission (1) with torque converter (10) and front axle differential propeller shaft (4). 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount IMPORTANT When doing so, align bores of torque converter (10) with the threaded unions (14) in the integrated starter alternator (A79). WS01.00-P-0092B
29 Tighten screws (19). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, transmission to engine *BA27.10-P-1001-04H 
30 Attach holders of 48 V wiring harness at transmission (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION M6x1 *BA00.10-P-1002-04A 
31 Install rear engine carrier at underbody. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 with engine 256.9
NOTES
Never use an impact wrench or compressed-air tool to remove the screws! Otherwise, the threads may be damaged.		 AR22.10-P-4360MSA

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS		 Unfasten strapping from transmission (1) and lower major-assembly support and mounting plate.

33 Attach torque converter (10) at integrated starter-alternator (A79). NOTES
Do not use an impact wrench or compressed air tool to tighten the screws.
Otherwise, the threaded unions (14) in the integrated starter-alternator (A79) will be damaged.		 AR27.20-P-0001-01EWM 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, torque converter to drive plate/star-shaped drive plates *BA27.20-P-1001-01D

34 Install fan unit. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 with engine 256.9 AR20.40-P-5050MSA
35 Install cover (3).    
36 Install propeller shaft. Transmission 725.0 in model 290 with engine 256 AR41.10-P-0050MNI
    Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238 with engine 256 AR41.10-P-0050LW
    Transmission 725.0 in model 257 with engine 256 AR41.10-P-0050MSA
37 Release mount of oil cooler and install oil cooler at transmission (1).   AR27.55-P-1000MSA
38 Install oil lines.   AR27.55-P-0600MSA
39 Plug in electrical connector of transmission (1) and lock.    
40 Attach heat shield to transmission (1).   AR27.40-P-0700-01LF
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, heat shield to oil pan *BA27.10-P-1009-04H 
41 Connect ground line (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Transmission 725.0 in model 238 with engine 256Bolt/nut, ground line to transmission/underfloor *BA00.19-P-1039-02B 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Transmission 725.0 in model 213 with engine 256Screw/bolt/nut, ground line to transmission/underfloor *BA00.19-P-1038-02A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Transmission 725.0 in model 257, 290 with engine 256Bolt/nut, ground line to transmission/underfloor *BA00.19-P-1039-02D 
42 Install front axle differential propeller shaft (4) on front axle differential. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238, 257, 290 with engine 256
with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

43 Connect ground line to battery. Transmission 725.0 in model 213 with engine 256 AR54.10-P-0003LW

44 Check and correct transmission oil level.   AR27.00-P-0270EWN

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS		 Read out and delete fault memory. Transmission 725.0 in model 213 with engine 256 AD00.00-P-2000-04B
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   Transmission 725.0 in model 238 with engine 256 AD00.00-P-2000-06LWO

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS		 Perform transmission adaptation with vehicle diagnosis system. After replacement or repair of the transmission (1).

48 Check transmission (1) for proper operation and leak tightness.    
49 Install center and rear lower engine compartment lining. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238 with engine 256 AR61.20-P-1105LWE

50 Disconnect vehicle from vehicle lift. Transmission 725.0 in model 213, 238 with engine 256 AR00.60-P-0100CW
