Removing Cross Member Above Rear Axle - Ar64.20-P-1300-07LWE

IMPORTANT The next steps 1 to 14 are shown on the left side of the vehicle; perform in the same way in the event of damage to the right side of the vehicle.

  1. Expose impact spikes on the striker plate (3) and cut through two panel thicknesses (areas A).
  2. Expose self-piercing riveting on end plate (3) and drill with Ø 6 mm bit (areas B).
  3. Mark separating point on wheel well (5) and cut (areas C).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    a = approx. 30 mm

    b approx. 40 mm

    c = approx. 25 mm

  4. Bend up sheet metal cutout in direction of arrow.
  5. Model 213.2

    Expose impact spikes on end plate (3) and cut out (area N).

  6. Expose self-piercing riveting on end plate (3) and drill with Ø 6 mm bit (area E).

  7. Heat end plate (3) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  8. Remove striker plate (3).

  9. Mark separating point for window cutout on rear longitudinal member (6) and cut (area F).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    g = approx. 130 mm

    f = approx. 50 mm

  10. Expose impact spikes on rear longitudinal member (6) and cut out (area D).

  11. Heat section of rear longitudinal member (6) in cross-hatched area.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched area is bonded.

  12. Remove section from rear longitudinal member (6).

    IMPORTANT Reuse section of the rear longitudinal member (6).

  13. Expose impact spikes on rear axle crossmember (1) and cut out (area G).
  14. Expose self-piercing riveting on rear axle crossmember (1) and drill with Ø 6 mm bit (areas H).

  15. Expose impact spikes on the rear axle crossmember upper section (2) and cut out (areas I).
  16. Drill through self-piercing riveting on the rear axle crossmember upper section (2) and drill through with a diameter of 6 mm (area J).
  17. Expose clinch connections on the rear axle crossmember upper section (2) and drill through with a diameter of 6 mm (area K).

  18. Heat rear axle crossmember upper section (2) in the cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  19. Remove rear axle crossmember upper section (2).

  20. Expose self-piercing riveting on rear axle crossmember (1) and drill with Ø 6 mm bit (areas L1 ).
  21. Expose impact spikes on rear axle crossmember (1) and cut out (areas L2 ).

  22. Heat rear axle crossmember (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

    IMPORTANT The next steps 23 to 26 are shown on the left side of the vehicle; perform in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  23. Heat rear axle crossmember (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  24. Remove rear axle crossmember (1) downward toward rear.

    IMPORTANT Helper required.

  25. Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on inside (area M).

  26. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  27. Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
  28. Remove grinding dust.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
