Location
The Night View Assist control unit is located on the right A-pillar (relative to the direction of travel), behind the trim in the footwell.
Tasks
The Night View Assist control unit performs the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Output of signals
- Actuation of components
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in over the following connections:
- Low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line
- Chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) (as of 01.03.2013)
LVDS
The Night View Assist control unit reads in the image data from Night View Assist infrared camera 1 (B84/2) via an LVDS line.
The Night View Assist control unit then processes the brightness distribution in the display. Extremely bright picture areas that could dazzle the driver are thus filtered out here.
Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
The Night View Assist control unit reads in the following information via the chassis CAN or chassis CAN 2:
- Vehicle speed
- Status of infrared light
- Light source detection status
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and signals for actuating the relevant components are putput.
Output of signals
The Night View Assist control unit sends the processed image data to the COMMAND controller unit (A40/3) via an analog video interface.
The image data is sent from the COMMAND controller unit to the Audio/COMMAND display (A40/8) via an LVDS line.
Actuation of components
Components are actuated with the following connection:
- Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
Chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 2 (as of 01.03.2013)
The Night View Assist control unit sends the following information or requests via the chassis CAN or chassis CAN 2:
- Status of Night View Assist
- Request for infrared light
- Request for status and notification messages
