Speaker output, general
A distinction is made between the following procedures:
- Speaker output in vehicles except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 853 ("Midline" sound system)
- Speaker output in vehicles with code 853 ("Midline" sound system)
- Speaker output in vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system)
- Speaker actuation in the event of voice output
This document does not describe speaker actuation with telematics services with a voice connection (e.g. emergency call).
Speaker output in vehicles except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 853 ("Midline" sound system)
The audio signals are output by the head unit via direct lines over the following speakers:
- Center instrument panel speaker (with code 362 (HERMES LTE))
- Left footwell woofer (right-hand drive vehicles)
- Right footwell woofer (left-hand drive vehicles)
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left rear door/side panel midrange speaker (except model 205.3/4)
- Right rear door/side panel midrange speaker (except model 205.3/4)
- Left rear sidewall cover midrange speaker (model 205.3/4)
- Right rear sidewall cover midrange speaker (model 205.3/4)

For telematics services with a voice connection (e.g. emergency call), the center instrument panel speaker is used for voice output and actuated via direct lines by the HERMES control unit (N112/9).
Speaker output in vehicles with code 853 ("Midline" sound system)
The audio signals from the head unit are routed via the TV tuner control unit (with code 865 (TV tuner)) via MOST to the Midline sound system amplifier control unit, where they are finally amplified and output through the following speakers using direct lines:
- Center instrument panel speaker
- Left footwell woofer (right-hand drive vehicles)
- Right footwell woofer (left-hand drive vehicles)
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Left front door tweeter
- Left front door tweeter
- Left rear door/side panel tweeter (except model 205.3/4)
- Right rear door/side panel tweeter (except model 205.3/4)
- Left rear door/side panel midrange speaker (except model 205.3/4)
- Right rear door/side panel midrange speaker (except model 205.3/4)
- Left rear sidewall cover midrange speaker (model 205.3/4)
- Right rear sidewall cover midrange speaker (model 205.3/4)

During actuation of the speaker system, the volume is adapted to the noise level in the vehicle interior. To this end, the head unit transmits the speed signal and the signals of the driver hands-free system microphone and the front passenger hands-free system microphone (interference recording) over MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit.

Speaker actuation in the event of voice output
The following speakers are actuated for voice output (e.g. as part of the telephony, navigation or voice control system):
- Left front door tweeter (with code 810 (Sound system) or code 853 ("Midline" sound system))
- Right front door tweeter (with code 810 (Sound system) or code 853 ("Midline" sound system))
- Left front door midrange speaker
- Right front door midrange speaker
- Center instrument panel speaker (with code 810 (Sound system) or code 853 ("Midline" sound system) or code 362 (HERMES LTE))
