Check Toe-Out Angle - AR40.20-P-0325XG

Model 463

as of model year 2019

INSPECT Check
1 Check toe on front axle, adjust if necessary. See "Perform Wheel Alignment Check".

Perform wheel alignment measurement.
AR40.20-P-0200XG
2 Check toe-out angle. IMPORTANT To check the steering geometry, measure the toe-out angle. This is the difference in the steer angle between the outside wheel and the inside wheel when the inside wheel is steered through 20°. If substantial deviations are found, the cause may be one of the following, assuming that the caster is correct and the camber is set correctly:
  • Toe not adjusted in straight-ahead position of steering, resulting in tie rods of unequal length.
  • The steering knuckle or tie rod is bent.

IMPORTANT Excessively large deviations in the front-end assembly and front axle carrier on vehicles involved in an accident:
  • Longitudinal frame member
  • Crossmember
  • Wheel well
  • Firewall, that acts unfavorably on the adjustment ranges for camber and caster so that large difference arise in the toe-out angle between left and right.
