Separating housing halves

  1. SPECIAL TOOL Prepare assembly tool.

IMPORTANT When carrying out the work, it is repeatedly necessary to secure or release the SPECIAL TOOL assembly tool against twisting and to align it vertically or horizontally.

  2. Fix the hub reduction gear in place in the SPECIAL TOOL assembly tool and secure against twisting.

    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

  3. Remove screws (19) of outer housing (13).

IMPORTANT The screw (19) directly over the wheel hub (36) is not yet removable at this point in time.

  4. Remove screws (18) of inner housing (12).
  5. Remove screw/bolts (16).

IMPORTANT Remove washers (15) with screws (16).

  6. Remove cap (14).
  7. Unscrew screw/bolt (6).
  8. Enable twisting on the SPECIAL TOOL assembly tool.
  9. Turn the housing so that the opening of the screw (6) and the screw of clamp nut (27) are aligned.
  10. Loosen screw of clamp nut (27) and unscrew clamp nut (27) with the SPECIAL TOOL adapter.
  11. Remove thrust plate (26) and tapered roller bearing (28).

IMPORTANT The bearing shell of the tapered roller bearing (28) remains in the inner housing (12).

  12. Disconnect the inner housing (12) from the outer housing (13) with the SPECIAL TOOL grub screws and put down the inner housing (12) on a suitable base.

    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.

  13. Take the deflecting spur gear (24) with tapered roller bearings (23, 25) out of the outer housing (13) and put

NOTES Do not use a prying tool.

This leads to damage to the sealing surfaces or to the cap (14).

IMPORTANT The bearing shell of the tapered roller bearing (23) remains in the outer housing (13).

The bearing shell of the tapered roller bearing (25) remains in the inner housing (12).

Observe alignment of the deflecting spur gear (24).
