Location
The control and operating unit is located in the instrument panel.
Task
The control and operating unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Climate control LIN (LIN B8)
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
Direct line
The signals from the following sensors are read via direct lines:
- Interior temperature sensor (B10/4)
- Evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6)
- Left side air vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/31)
- Right side air vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/32)
- Left front footwell vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/35)
- Right front footwell vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/36)
- Sun sensor (B32/3)
- Interior temperature sensor with integrated fan (N70/3b1) (without code (414) Electric glass tilting/sliding roof)
Climate control LIN
The signals of the vehicle interior humidity/temperature sensor (B82) (as of 1.12.09 or with code (B03) ECO start/stop function) are read in via the climate control LIN.
Interior CAN
The following signals, e.g. are read in over the interior CAN:
- Vehicle speed (from instrument cluster (A1))
- Status of voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (from radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) (with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer) or from the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) (with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer) or with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))
- Coolant temperature (from CDI control unit (N39) (with diesel engine) or from ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine)
- Refrigerant pressure (from front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1))
- Outside temperature (from front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module)
- Engine speed (from CDI control unit (with diesel engine) or ME-SFI [ME] control unit (with gasoline engine))
- Interior temperature (from overhead control panel control unit (N70) (with code (414) Power glass tilting/sliding roof))
- Position of panoramic sliding sunroof (from panoramic sliding sunroof control module (A98) (with code (413) Panoramic glass sunroof with top sliding sunroof)
- Circuit 15 status (from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73))
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Climate control LIN
- Interior CAN
Direct line
The signals of the blower regulator (A32n1) are read in via direct lines.
Climate control LIN
The following components are actuated via climate control LIN:
- Fresh air/recirculated air flap actuator motor (M2/5)
- Left blend air flap actuator motor (M2/6)
- Right blend air flap actuator motor (M2/7)
- Defroster flap actuator motor (M2/16)
- Air distribution flap actuator motor (M16/22)
- PTC heater booster (R22/3) (with engine 271.8, 274.9, 642.8 (up to 28.2.13) or 651.9)
Interior CAN
The following components are actuated by the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit via the interior CAN, for example.
- Electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) (in model 212.095/098/298)
- Coolant circulation pump (M13/5)
- Evaporator shutoff valve (Y19/3) (in model 212.095/098/298)
- Combustion engine fan motor and air conditioning with integrated control (M4/7)
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions.
