Headlamp cleaning system, function - GF82.15-P-3000FL

MODEL 212 with CODE 600 (Headlamp cleaning system)

Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The low beams can be switched on by the auto on/off driving lights function, the daytime running lights function or manually. The front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) generates the "Low beams ON" status itself corresponding to the pending request.

The CDI control unit (N3/9) (diesel engine) or the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (gasoline engine) transmits the "Engine running" or "Drivetrain operational" signal via the chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 01.03.2013) to the front SAM control unit.

Headlamp cleaning system, general

The headlamp cleaning system cleans cover plates for the headlamps using a high pressure water spray.

Any soiling of the cover plates is then removed.

Function sequence for headlamp cleaning system

If the low beams are switched on and the windshield washer system is activated for the tenth time, then the cover plates for the front lamp units are cleaned by the headlamp cleaning system. The steering column tube module control unit (N80) reads in the position of the combination switch (S4) directly and transmits this via the chassis CAN (up to 28.02.2013) or chassis CAN 1 (as of 01.03.2013) to the front SAM control unit, which then actuates the headlamp cleaning system pump (M5/2). The telescopic nozzles are extended by the pressure built up in the headlamp cleaning system pump and the washer fluid cleans the headlamp cover plates. Following another ten wash requests, the headlamp cleaning system pump is actuated again. The number of washing requests is recorded by a counter in the front SAM control unit. The counter is automatically reset once the ten wash requests have been reached or by switching off circuit 15. The status of circuit 15 is sent by the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) via interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit.
