Remove/check/install front axle brake pads - AR42.10-P-1610EWB

DANGER Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
DANGER Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Clean area around cap on expansion reservoir for brake fluid Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
2 Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston is pushed back.  
3 Remove front wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 207 AP40.10-P-4050CW
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 212 AP40.10-P-4050EW
4 Detach electrical connection from brake wear sensor at front right (S10/2x1)    
5 Remove bolts (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 207
Non-split 1-piston floating caliper brake
Model 212 (except 212.061/074/075/076/077/092/274/275/276/277/292)
Non-split 1-piston floating caliper brakeGuide pin, brake caliper to brake caliper support

6 Remove brake caliper (3) and secure free of tension to vehicle with lines still connected NOTES Do not subject the brake hose and electrical line to tension and do not kink them.
The brake hose and the electrical line can otherwise be damaged.
 
7 Remove brake linings (5) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the brake linings (5) and brake caliper supports (2).
IMPORTANT Only complete sets of brake linings (5) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
 
8 Remove spring plates (6) from brake caliper support (2) When replacing the brake linings (5).    
INSPECT Check     
9 Check brake linings (5) for wear and that they are in good condition    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4253A
    In case of damage or excessive wear:

Replace brake linings (5).
IMPORTANT Replace the brake linings (5) as a complete set only.
 
10 Check brake disk (7) for wear and that it is in good condition    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4256EW
    In case of damage or excessive wear:

Replace the brake disk (7).
 
    Model 207
Non-split 1-piston floating caliper brake
Model 212 except code B07 (Ceramic brake system) Non-split 1-piston floating caliper brake
IMPORTANT Replace brake disks (7) as a complete set only.

11 Check brake caliper (3) and dust boot (8) of brake piston for leaktightness and damage If there are problems:  
      AR42.10-P-0070EWB 
12 Press back brake piston using pusher tool (01) SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device
If the brake piston is difficult to move:

Replace brake caliper (3).

13 Check boots (9) for damage If damage is present:

Replace the boots (9).
 
14 Check sliding bolts (11) for ease of movement If there are problems:

Replace the sliding bolts (11).
 
CLEANING Clean     
15 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (5) on brake caliper (3) and on brake caliper support (2) NOTES Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects to clean.
The dust boot (8), brake caliper (3) or brake caliper support (2) can otherwise be damaged.
 
Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
16 Pull right front brake wear sensor (S10/2) out of pad backing plate of brake lining (5) When replacing the brake linings (5) or when replacing the front right brake wear sensor (S10/2).    
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Depress brake pedal several times until brake linings (5) rest against brake disks (7) IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
19 Check/correct brake fluid level in expansion reservoir    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210EW
20 Carry out brake test on the test stand
