Function requirement TV mode, general 

TV mode, general 

The tuner unit makes it possible to receive digital TV channels in the vehicle and show them on the Audio/COMAND display. The tuner unit separates the video and audio signals from each other and forwards them separately. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:

IMPORTANT The TV picture is switched off when the vehicle starts to move. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display.

Operation function sequence 

The COMAND controller unit generates the menu displays and transmits them to the Audio/COMAND display via an LVDS line. The tuner unit receives the control signals from the Audio/COMAND control panel via the following route:

The tuner unit receives the control signals from the left multifunction steering wheel button group and from the right multifunction steering wheel button group via the following route:

Function sequence for TV signal reception 

TV signals are forwarded from the rear window antenna to the tuner unit via the following antenna amplifiers:

TV signals are forwarded from the windshield antenna to the tuner unit via the following antenna amplifiers:

After the tuner unit has processed the signals, it outputs the video signals as follows:

Function sequence for audio signal 

After the TV signals have been processed in the tuner unit, the audio signals are sent via MOST to the COMAND controller unit, and in vehicles with CODE 810 (Sound system) or CODE 811 (Advanced sound system), the signals are sent via MOST to the sound system amplifier control unit, where they are then amplified and output over the speaker system.

The supplemental information is subdivided into the following categories:

TV reception 

Digital television in accordance with the Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB-T) standard is received in the range of 470 to 710 MHz. In addition to the video compression standard Mpeg 2, Mpeg 4 is also supported. Receiving encoded programs is also possible via an integrated conditional access module.

Additional functions 

In the frequency ranges of 90 to 108 MHz and 170 to 222 MHz, new services will be offered that can be supported by the tuner unit.

The tuner unit currently has the following functions:

IMPORTANT Videotext function: Some stations, primarily in central Europe, offer videotext in addition to their television program. For this purpose, the tuner unit is equipped with a separate videotext decoder. Only videotext broadcast with Latin ASCII characters are supported, i.e. Greek or Cyrillic characters are not supported.

TV reception 

The "B-CAS SIM card" inserted in the SIM (subscriber identification module) card reader of the tuner unit allows encoded programs to be received. With digital TV reception, the "one-segment" substandard (TV standard for mobile telephony) is also supported in vehicles as of 1.6.12 in addition to the "full-segment" substandard.
