Headlight switch off delay function - GF82.10-P-2011FQ

MODEL 218

Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The instrument cluster sends the status of the "ambient illumination" function over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

The ambient brightness is sensed by the rain/light sensor. The rain/light sensor sends corresponding data via the wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN (LIN 2) to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit directly reads in the status of the exterior lights switch (voltage-coded).

Headlamp switch-off delay (SWA), general

The SWA is used for leaving and finding the vehicle safely in darkness.

The following light functions are activated here:

The SWA function is comprised of the following subfunctions:

IMPORTANT The headlamp switch-off delay and locator lighting functions run in parallel if necessary. An active headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) function is not terminated by a requested AFB function and vice versa.

Function sequence for headlamp switch-off delay (SWA)

The SWA function (outer OFF delay function) is activated by the driver after the engine has been switched off (change in circuit status from circuit 15 ON to circuit 15R ON) for the configured period of time. The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via interior CAN. The front SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation.

At the same time, the front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination to the following control units:

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp.

The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp.

The headlamp control units (lamp units in full LED version (dynamic as of 01.09.2014)) actuate the respective front ambient light.

IMPORTANT The function starts again by opening a vehicle door. The trunk lid (model 218.3) or the liftgate (model 218.9) is considered to be a vehicle door. If all vehicle doors are closed again, the function is limited to t = 15 s.

The status of the front doors is sent by the front door control units, and the status of the rear doors and trunk lid or liftgate is sent by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The active headlamp switch-off delay is immediately terminated by switching on circuit 15 or by triggering an antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) alarm (with code (551) Antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW])).

Function sequence for AFB

When unlocking the vehicle, the ambient illumination is switched on for a period of t = 40 s (time for the automatic relocking).

The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. At the same time, the front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp.

The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp.

The headlamp control units (lamp units in full LED version (dynamic as of 01.09.2014)) actuate the respective ambient light.

IMPORTANT On ECE vehicles with lamp units in full LED version (dynamic as if 01.09.2014), the respective ambient light lights up in blue for t = 2 and then in white.

IMPORTANT If an engine start is detected within t = 40 s, a change is made from the locator lighting to the on/off driving lights function.

Detailed information on the auto on/off driving lights is available in the separate function "Driving lights actuation, function".
