Remove/install rear spring - AR32.20-P-0230LW

MODEL 205 without CODE 489 (AIRMATIC)

DANGER Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves. AS00.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on repair work on suspension components   AH00.00-P-0100-01A
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Detach rear complete wheel   AR40.10-P-1101A
2 Detach cover (6f) from spring control arm (2) IMPORTANT Press locks for cover (6e) together using sleeve (inside diameter 9 mm) or box wrench 9 mm.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check locks for cover (6e) for damage and, if necessary replace cover (6f).
 
3 Tension rear axle spring (1)   AR32.20-P-0200-06LW

4 Remove rear axle spring (1) from spring control arm (2) IMPORTANT Clean spring control arm (2) in area of spring seat.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check rear axle spring (1) is correctly seated in upper spring seat (4) and lower spring seat (5) (arrows e).
 
5 Place match marks for installation position of rear axle spring (1) on upper clamping plate (06) and lower clamping plate (07) using adhesive tape (arrows a) IMPORTANT Do not use a touch-up paint pen because the rear axle spring (1) is color-coded.  
6 Release removed rear axle spring (1) and remove   AR32.20-P-0200-06LW
IMPORTANT When replacing the rear axle spring (1) the marking must be transferred using adhesive tape (arrows a) to the new rear axle spring (1).

7 Detach upper plastic shim (3) with upper spring seat (4) and lower spring seat (5) then check for damage, replace if necessary IMPORTANT When the replacing the rear axle spring (1) the lower spring seat (5) must always be replaced too. The upper spring seat (4) must be replaced with an upper spring seat (4) with a notch in it.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check upper plastic shim (3) (arrows b and c) and lower spring seat (5) (arrows d) are correctly seated.
 
8 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
9 Check rear axle spring (1) for paint damage When reinstalling the rear axle spring (1).
NOTES Only repair paint damage using a black touchup paint pen.
Otherwise it could lead to confusion with the color marking of the rear axle springs (1).
 
10 Check headlamp adjustment and correct if necessary When replacing components.
