	Remove/install
1	Remove cover above brake fluid expansion reservoir
2	Clean area around cap on expansion reservoir for brake fluid	Assembly cleaner	*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A
3	Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid	This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the brake piston (5) is pushed back.
4	Remove front wheels		AR40.10-P-1101A
5	Disconnect right front brake wear sensor from electrical connector
6	Unhook safety spring (6) from pin (1) and remove	Model 205 with code P31 (AMG Exterior Sports package) 4-piston fixed-caliper brake
7	Use punch to knock out pin (1) and remove retaining spring (2)	Pound in pin (1) up to end stops. Check retaining spring (2) is correctly seated.
8	Release brake pads (3) from brake piston (5)	Model 205 except code P31 (AMG Exterior Sports package) 4-piston fixed-caliper brake The brake linings (3) are bonded.
9	Remove brake linings (3)	Model 205 except code P31 (AMG Exterior Sports package) 4-piston fixed-caliper brake Installation:  The released bonding means that the brake linings (3) have to be replaced. Remove protective foils from bonding surfaces of brake linings (3). Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the brake linings (3) and brake calipers (4). Only sets of brake linings (3) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
10	Remove soundproofing panels (7, 8) and springs (9) from brake linings (3)	Model 205 with code P31 (AMG Exterior Sports package) 4-piston fixed-caliper brake When replacing the brake linings (3). Install components in correct positions. The arrows (arrows) when installed must face towards the direction of rotation for the brake disk, and the springs (9) must be mounted to the underside of the brake linings (3).
	Check
11	Check pin (1) and retaining spring (2) for damage and condition	If there are problems: ↓ Replace pin (1) or retaining spring (2).
12	Check condition of soundproofing panels (7, 8) and springs (9)	Model 205 with code P31 (AMG Exterior Sports package) 4-piston fixed-caliper brake If there are problems: ↓ Replace soundproofing panels (7, 8) or springs (9).
13	Check brake linings (3) for wear and that they are in good condition	Model 205 with code P31 (AMG Exterior Sports package) 4-piston fixed-caliper brake

		In case of damage or excessive wear: ↓ Replace brake linings (3). Replace brake linings (3) as a complete set only.
14	Check brake disk for wear and condition

		In case of damage or excessive wear: ↓ Replace brake disk.

		Replace brake disks as a complete set only.
15	Check brake caliper (4) and dust boots of brake piston (5) for leaktightness and damage	If there are problems: ↓ Replace brake caliper (4).

16	Press back brake piston using resetting device (5)	Secure remaining brake piston (5) using two wedges against slipping out.

	Clean
17	Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (3) on brake caliper (4) and brake piston (5)	Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects. Otherwise, the brake caliper (4) or the dust boots of the brake piston (5) may be damaged. Model 205 except code P31 (AMG Exterior Sports package) 4-piston fixed-caliper brake Adhesive residue must always be completely removed from the contact surfaces on the brake piston (5).
		Assembly cleaner	*BR00.45-Z-1028-04A
18	Pull right front brake wear sensor out of pad backing plate of brake lining (3)	When replacing the brake linings (3) or replacing the right front brake wear sensor.
19	Install in the reverse order
20	Operate the brake pedal several times until brake linings (3) contact the brake disks	Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.

21	Check/correct brake fluid level in expansion reservoir

22	Carry out brake test on the test stand
