Function requirements, engine sound, general 

• Engine running.

The engine sound noises are always output via the speakers in the vehicle, regardless of whether the audio equipment is switched on or off.

Engine sound, general 

The engine sound control unit simulates engine noises in the vehicle interior via the speaker system in order to represent a more powerful engine.

The engine sound function is divided into the following subfunctions:

• Function sequence for engine sound (except code 810 (Sound system)) 
• Function sequence for engine sound (with code 810 (Sound system)) 

Function sequence for engine sound (except code 810 (Sound system)) 

The engine sound control unit receives the following signals:

• Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load or vehicle speed) via engine CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit
• Analog signals via direct line from the head unit

The engine sound control unit transmits the following signals:

• Synthesized sound signals over direct lines to:
  • Left footwell woofer (for right-hand drive vehicles)
  • Right footwell woofer (for left-hand drive vehicles)
  • Left front door midrange speaker
  • Right front door midrange speaker
  • Left rear door/side paneling midrange speaker
  • Right rear door/side paneling midrange speaker

Function sequence for engine sound (with code 810 (Sound system)) 

The engine sound control unit receives the following signals:

• Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load or vehicle speed) via engine CAN from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit

The engine sound control unit transmits the following signals:

• Synthesized sound signals over 4 symmetric lines to the sound system amplifier control unit

The sound system amplifier control unit forwards the synthesized sound signals to the following speakers:

• Center instrument panel speaker
• Left footwell woofer (for right-hand drive vehicles)
• Right footwell woofer (for left-hand drive vehicles)
• Left rear surround sound system midrange speaker
• Right rear surround sound system midrange speaker
• Left front door tweeter
• Right front door tweeter
• Left rear door/side paneling tweeter
• Right rear door/side paneling tweeter
• Left front door midrange speaker
• Right front door midrange speaker
• Left rear door/side paneling midrange speaker
• Right rear door/side paneling midrange speaker

The sound system amplifier control unit software distributes the synthesized sound signals to the individual speakers.
