Persons who wear electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers), must not  carry out any work on high-voltage on-board electrical systems. AS54.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

1 Perform disable for the high-voltage on-board electrical system Model 242 with engine 780

2 Detach left rear wheel-and-tire assembly Model 242 with engine 780

3 Remove fender liner in left rear fender Model 242 with engine 780

4 Unclip charging cable (11) (arrow G, H, I, J) Model 242 with engine 780

5 Detach charger feed socket (12) from tank filler recess (1) Model 242 with engine 780

IMPORTANT Charger feed socket (12) remains on vehicle.  
6 Unclip lock (13) from charger feed power outlet (12) and detach charging cable (11) from charger feed power outlet (12) Model 242 with engine 780

7 Unlock fuel filler flap (4) from catch hook (arrow A) and remove from hinge (3)    
8.1 Remove rubber plug (2) If rubber plug (2) is installed.  
8.2 Drill tank filler recess (3) at defined cutout (arrows C, D, E, F) with Ø 3 mm bit If rubber plug (2) is not installed.  
9 Unclip tank/socket cap central locking actuator (M14/10) from catch hooks (6)    
10 Disconnect electrical connector (7) and remove tank/socket cap central locking actuator (M14/10)    
11 Unclip tank cap check strap from bracket (arrow B) and unscrew tank tap Model 117, 156, 176, 246

12 Remove gas filler fitting cap (10) together with check strap Model 242 with engine 270  
13 Disengage catch hooks (1.1) behind release holes (arrows C, D, E, F) with extraction hook (8) and simultaneously pull tank filler recess (1) out of left rear fender IMPORTANT Insert extraction hook (8) into release holes (arrows C, D, E, F) only far enough to disengage catch hooks (1.1).

14 Coat seal on tank filler recess (1) on filler neck (9) with lubricant Model 117, 156, 176, 246

15 Coat seal on tank filler recess (1) on gas filler fitting with lubricant Model 242 with engine 270

16.1 Put seal of tank filler recess (1) over filler neck (9), gas filler neck and remove tank filler recess (1) from left rear fender. Model 242 with engine 270  
16.2 Carefully put tank filler recess (1) over lock (13) and filler neck (9) and remove tank filler recess (1) from left rear fender Model 242 with engine 780

16.3 Put tank filler recess (1) over filler neck (9) and remove left rear fender. Model 117, 156, 176, 246  
INSTALLING Install     
17 Install rubber plug (2) in tank filler recess (1) If tank filler recess must not be replaced and the cutouts (arrows C, D, E, F) are not plugged.  
18 Coat seal on tank filler recess (1) on filler neck (9) with lubricant Model 117, 156, 176, 246

19 Coat seal on tank filler recess (1) on gas filler fitting with lubricant Model 242 with engine 270

20 Put seal of tank filler recess (1) over filler neck (9) Model 117, 156, 176, 246

21 Put seal of tank filler recess (1) over gas filler fitting Model 242 with engine 270  
22 Guide electrical connector (7) through opening for tank/socket cap central locking actuator (M14/10)    
23 Insert tank filler recess (1) at front into left rear fender, the pivot toward rear and clip in catch hook (1.1).    
24 Screw on tank cap and clip tank cap check strap into bracket (arrow B) Model 117, 156, 176, 246

25 Remove gas filler fitting cap (10) together with check strap Model 242 with engine 270  
26 Connect tank/socket cap central locking actuator (M14/10) to electrical connector (7) and clip into tank filler recess (1)    
27 Clip charger feed socket (12) into lock (13) Model 242 with engine 780

28 Install charger feed socket (12) Model 242 with engine 780

29 Slide tank cap (4) onto hinge (3) and arrest
