DANGER Risk of injury  due to fan starting unexpectedly Do not reach into the rotation or hazard area of the fan. Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes. AS20.40-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
DANGER Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Move brake pads on rear axle to assembly position   AR42.10-P-1700-02W
NOTES Do not depress the service brake during "Move to assembly position". Otherwise, the spindle in the brake caliper (3) gets damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Leave assembly position.
2 Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key from electronic ignition lock control unit IMPORTANT In order to prevent unintended movement away from the assembly position.  
3 Clean area around cap on expansion reservoir for brake fluid    
4 Unscrew the cap on the brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some brake fluid IMPORTANT In order to prevent the expansion reservoir overflowing when pressing back the brake pistons.  
5 Remove rear wheels    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE AP40.10-P-4050AK
6 Unclip electrical line of rpm sensor from retaining frame (8) When replacing the brake caliper (3).  
7 Remove brake hose (6) and seal with a suitable stop plug When replacing the brake caliper (3).

NOTES Seal connections immediately.
Otherwise brake fluid flowing out can cause damage to adjoining components.
IMPORTANT The brake caliper (3) must not run empty. Otherwise the brake caliper (3) must be replaced. AR42.10-P-0013NKB 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Retaining screw, brake line to brake hose *BA42.10-P-1001-04L 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake hose to fixed or floating caliper on front axle *BA42.10-P-1002-04L 
SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Figure
8 Remove screws/bolts (1) from guide pin (5) IMPORTANT Counterhold guide pin (5).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Guide pin to brake caliper support *BA42.10-P-1004-12J 
9 Remove brake caliper (3) from brake caliper support (2) NOTES Do not tension or kink brake hose (6). Attach brake caliper (3) to the vehicle free of tension to relieve the brake hose (6) and the electrical line (7).
Otherwise the brake hose (6) and the electrical line (7) can be damaged.		  
10 Press back brake piston using pusher tool (01) IMPORTANT If brake piston is sluggish, replace brake caliper (3).

11 Remove left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2) from brake caliper (3) When replacing the brake caliper (3).

12 Remove brake pads (10) from brake caliper (2). When removing the brake caliper support support (2)
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only complete sets of brake pads (10) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not apply brake pastes or lubricants to the brake pads (10) and brake calipers (3).		  
13 Remove spring plates (11) from brake caliper support (2) When removing/replacing the brake caliper support (2).  
14 Unscrew screws/bolts (4) and remove brake support (2). When replacing the brake caliper, caliper support (2)  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, brake caliper to hub/rotor assembly *BA42.10-P-1001-12J 
MEASURING Measure     
15 Check condition of brake pads (10) and gauge degree of wear IMPORTANT Replace brake pads (10) if necessary.  
16 Check condition of brake disk (9) and gauge degree of wear   AR42.10-P-0220NKB 
IMPORTANT Replace the brake disk (9) if necessary.
17 Check brake caliper (3) and dust boot (13) on brake piston for damage IMPORTANT If damaged, replace brake caliper (3).  
18 Check boots (12) for damage and correct seating and check guide pin (5) for ease of movement IMPORTANT Replace brake caliper support (2) if damaged.  
CLEAN Clean     
19 Clean contact surfaces of the brake pads (10) on brake caliper (3) and brake caliper support (2) using a rag NOTES In the process do not damage the dust boot (13) on the brake piston. Do not use sharp-edged or pointed implements to clean. Otherwise, the brake caliper (3) or brake caliper support (2) get damaged.  
Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
20 Convert retaining frame (8) When replacing the brake caliper (3).  
21 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
22 Depress brake pedal several times until brake pads (10) rest against brake disks (9) IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
23 Check fluid level in brake fluid reservoir, and correct if necessary

24 Carry out brake test on the test stand
