REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Disconnect battery ground line Model 117, 176
with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))
 
AR54.10-P-0003NKB
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
2 Lift vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-1000AK
3 Unscrew two outer bolts (2) on right and left from paneling (3)    
4 Unscrew all other bolts (2) from paneling (3) Model 176
with code 772 (AMG styling package - front spoiler, side skirts and rear apron)
 
5 Remove expansion rivet (4) from paneling (3)    
6 Remove expansion rivet (4) from left and right fender liner (5)    
7 Slightly lift left and right fender liner (5) from front bumper (1) and unscrew bolts (6)    
8 Turn electrical connector (7) on front bumper (1) 45°, unhook and disconnect    
9 Pull outside temperature sensor (12) out of front bumper (1) IMPORTANT The electrical connector for the temperature sensor (12) must not be disconnected.  
10 Disconnect electrical connectors (8, 10) from left daytime running lights (11) and right daytime running lights (9) Model 117, 246

11 Disconnect electrical connectors from front fog lamps Model 117, 246

12 Remove front bumper (1) until electrical connectors on right front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (19) and left front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (20) are accessible Model 117, 176

13 Disconnect connector from left front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (19) and right front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (20) Model 117, 176
with code U60 (Active Bonnet (Pedestrian protection))
 
14 Loosen left lip and right lip until outer bolts (13) are accessible Model 176
as of model year 2016
 
15 Remove screws (13)    
16 Unclip covers (21) at transition between fender and front bumper (1) on left and right and lift slightly until bolts (22) are accessible Model 117  
17 Unscrew bolts (22) on left and right sides Model 117  
18 Pull radiator grille (15) with extraction hook (16) out of brackets Model 117, 242, 246

SPECIAL TOOL Extraction hook Fig 8
19 Remove front bumper (1) IMPORTANT If the outer side bracket on the lamp unit (arrow) is damaged, it is not necessary to replace the lamp unit. This bracket (arrow) is only required for production.  
20 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
21 Remove right front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (19) and left front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (20)    
NOTES Notes on pedestrian protection sensor   AH91.60-P-0001-01A
    Check freely visible points for damage of any kind (cracks, holes, breakovers, etc.) when installed.

If damage is visible, always replace right front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (19) or left front bumper pedestrian protection sensor (20).

23 Check whether PARKTRONIC or active parking assist is ready for operation    
24 Switch on ignition and PARKTRONIC, engage reverse gear and release parking brake IMPORTANT The PARKTRONIC automatically performs a self-test and the operational readiness is signaled via the warning indicators.
