DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Print out customer information form and fill in    
REFER TO FORMS Confirmation of reduced towing capacity for trailer hitch, form   OF31.10-P-3000-02A
    IMPORTANT For do-it-yourself installation, print out the detailed assembly instructions and hand over to the customer.
The reduced towing capacity must be amended/registered in the vehicle papers at an approved inspection station.
Inform the customer that the trailer hitch may be loaded with a permitted total braked and non-braked load of 400 kg. The customer must confirm in writing that he was informed of this. The customer information form must be filed in a tamperproof manner at the workshop.
 
2 Print out the document "Trailer hitch, certificate" For countries that do not belong to the EU.

3 Disconnect battery ground line

4 Remove paneling on left in trunk

5 Remove right paneling in trunk

6 Remove rear bumper    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR88.20-P-2200LW
7 Remove heat shield above rear muffler IMPORTANT Left on a single-pipe exhaust system. Left and right on a twin-pipe exhaust system.  
8 Unfasten rubber retainer on rear muffler IMPORTANT Left on a single-pipe exhaust system. Left and right on a twin-pipe exhaust system.  
9 Remove cross member (6) IMPORTANT The cross member (6) is no longer required.  
10 Detach fuse and relay module in rear, replace if necessary

    IMPORTANT Check the EPC in DG 99 to determine whether the corresponding vehicle equipment's installed rear fuse and relay module can be used for retrofitting the trailer hitch (AHV). If necessary, remove the rear fuse and relay module and replace with one compatible with the trailer hitch.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, longitudinal member reinforcement for trailer hitch to body *BA31.11-P-1002-01K 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, trailer hitch to longitudinal member reinforcement *BA31.11-P-1001-01K 
12 Retrofit trailer hitch wiring harness   AN31.19-P-8100-05LW
SPECIAL TOOL New passenger car wiring harness repair kit Fig 4

13 Install trailer hitch release switch   AN31.19-P-8080-07LW
14 Convert bumper MODEL 205.0 except CODE 772 (AMG styling) AN31.11-P-8080-01LW

15 Attach information label (42) to trunk lid    
16 Attach large information label (40) to trunk lid    
17 Attach small information label (41) as shown    
18 Install remaining parts    
19 Connect diagnostic system and select vehicle using vehicle identification number (VIN)    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04B
20 Perform variant coding of "SAM control unit", "instrument cluster" and "central gateway in the electronic ignition lock control unit" with XENTRY using Software Calibration Number (SCN)    
21 Disconnect diagnostic system

INSPECT Check     
22 Perform function test of light signals at trailer hitch socket   AN31.19-P-8100-06LW
  Update Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc)     
23 Enter CODE 550 (Trailer hitch) through Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc) in on-line vehicle data card    
24 Enter the following text relating to design groups via the "AO texts" tab: "Trailer hitch with a braked and unbraked permissible total towing capacity of 400 kg."    
25 Attach note "Trailer hitch retrofitted as per AN31.10-P-0006LW " under field organization texts for design group 31
