Remove/install rear-axle brake caliper - AR42.10-P-0080AA

MODEL 461 with disk brakes at the rear axle 

MODEL 463 (except 463.234/270/271) up to model year 2013 except code 979 (Special protection MB Guard) with disk brakes at the rear axle

DANGER Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Detach complete wheel    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP40.10-P-4050G
2 Remove brake hose (1) from brake caliper (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake hose to rear axle floating caliper *BA42.10-P-1005-04B 
SPECIAL TOOL Torque wrench Fig 5
Box wrench bit Figure
3 Seal exposed connections with plugs IMPORTANT To prevent the brake fluid reservoir from emptying.  
SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Figure
4 Detach brake caliper (2) from brake caliper support (6) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace microencapsulated guide pins (3).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, pilot bushing/guide pin to brake caliper support *BA42.10-P-1002-17B 
5 Remove contact sensor from brake wear indicator If installed.  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, brake wear contact sensor to floating caliper *BA42.10-P-1004-17B 
6 Push back brake piston (4) with pusher tool and collect brake fluid in a suitable container SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device Fig 3
7 Clean brake caliper (2) SPECIAL TOOL Brake caliper brush Fig 4
INSPECT Check     
8 Check brake caliper (2) for brake fluid escaping from the brake piston (4) If complaint present
↓
Replace brake caliper (2)
 
9 Check dust cap (5) for damage If complaint present
↓
Replace dust cap (5)
 
10 Install in the reverse order    
11 Bleed brake system   AR42.10-P-0010GG 
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
12 Press brake pedal several times and check brake system for leaktightness   AR42.10-P-0100-01A
    IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
13 Check fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir, correct if necessary
