REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  Injuries may result when performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on performing repair, body work and welding on vehicles with airbags or emergency tensioning retractor units   AH91.00-P-0002-01M
IMPORTANT Legal regulations on handling and storing airbags and emergency tensioning retractor units   AH91.00-P-0004-01A
1 Disconnect ground line at the on-board electrical system battery   AR54.10-P-0003EW
2 Adjust air distribution on air conditioning to footwell. IMPORTANT If air distribution is adjusted incorrectly, the side air vent flaps can be unhooked from the AC housing when removing the instrument cluster (1).  
3 Remove glove box (2) Model 207 AR68.10-P-1400EC
Model 212
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that air duct (36) is seated correctly on glove box (2).

4 Disconnect electrical connector (34) from right side vent temperature sensor (B10/32) IMPORTANT On model 207, remove cover (44) for this purpose  
5 Disconnect electrical connector (43) from right side air vent Model 207  
6 Disconnect electrical connector (3) from passenger airbag squib 1 and electrical connector (4) from passenger airbag squib 2 SPECIAL TOOL Fig 8
7 Remove right A-pillar paneling (6). SPECIAL TOOL Fig 6
8 Remove radio   AR82.60-P-7502EW
9 Remove radio display   AR82.60-P-7722EW
10 Remove cover (7)   AR68.10-P-1000-05EW

11 Remove center instrument panel speaker (H4/27) On vehicles with code (810) Sound system or with code (359) TELE AID emergency call system  
12 Unscrew bolt (10)    
13 Remove automatic air conditioning control and operating unit (N22/7) Model 207 AR83.25-P-1124EC
Model 212 AR83.40-P-6350EW
14 Remove air duct (11) Model 212 with code (512) COMAND APS
incl. DVD changer or
With code (527) COMAND APS with Single DVD disk drive (with navigation)
 
15 Disconnect electrical connector (12) from KEYLESS GO interior antenna (A2/61) On vehicles with code (889) Keyless go  
16 Loosen center console (13) and slightly pull toward rear Model 207 AR68.20-P-2000CW
Model 212
IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connectors.

17 Remove cover (14) Rechargeable drill/screwdriver  
18 Remove cover (15) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 6
19 Unclip interior fuse box (F34) from instrument panel (1) and guide into instrument panel (1) with electrical lines connected Model 207

20 Unhook parking brake release cable (16) from release lever (17) and remove release lever (17) from vehicle    
21 Disconnect electrical connector (18) from exterior lights switch (S1)    
22 Disconnect electrical connector (35) from left side air vent temperature sensor air outlet (B10/31)    
23 Disconnect electrical connector (46) from left side air vent Model 207  
24 Remove steering column tube module Model 204, 207 AR54.25-P-2802CW
25 Unclip steering column tube cover (47) at both ends from instrument panel (1) (arrows B) and remove Model 212  
26 Remove instrument cluster (A1)   AR54.30-P-6015EW
27 Disconnect electrical connector (34) from right side vent temperature sensor (B10/32)    
28 Remove left A-pillar paneling (19) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 6
29 Disconnect electrical connectors (20, 21) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) Model 212 without code (279) Electronic gear selector  
30 Unhook cable (38) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) On model 212 without code (279) Electronic gear selector
IMPORTANT For this purpose press retaining clips (39) together (arrows) and guide cable (38) toward front out of catch hook.
 
31 Unscrew trim ring (41) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) Model 207  
SPECIAL TOOL Fig 9
32 Press electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) toward inside into dashboard (1). Model 207  
33 Disconnect electrical connector (22) from driver kneebag squib on driver kneebag (24) SPECIAL TOOL Fig 8
34 Unscrew nuts (23) from driver kneebag (24) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.60-P-1003-01M 
35 Unscrew bolt (25) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.60-P-1002-01M 
36 Unscrew bolts (26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31)    
37 Unclip clip (42) from instrument panel (1)    
38.1 Lift instrument panel (1) and disconnect electrical connector from (32) interior temperature sensor (B10/4) Model 212  
38.2 Lift instrument panel (1) and disconnect electrical connector from electric coupling (43) on interior temperature sensor (B10/4) Model 207  
39 Unclip bracket (37) Model 212  
40 Separate air duct (40) from connector (arrow A). On vehicles with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer or
With code (527) COMAND APS with Single DVD disk drive (with navigation)
 
41 Remove air ducts (33) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Install air ducts (33) only after positioning instrument panel (1).  
42 Remove electrical lines in area of air ducts (33) from instrument panel (1) Model 212  
43 Remove instrument panel (1) from vehicle with aid of helper INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Position electric wiring harnesses of components installed in dashboard (1) before installation.  
44 Install in the reverse order
