DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. Do not perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained. AS83.00-Z-0001-01A
DANGER Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Drain air conditioning system, then disconnect air conditioning service unit MODEL 176, 246
with CODE 2U8 (Refrigerant R-1234yf)

2 Remove coolant circulation pump (M13/5) from bracket (34) MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242 (except 242.89), 246
with CODE 581 (Comfort automatic air conditioning)
without CODE 228 (Auxiliary heater)

IMPORTANT The heater hoses at the coolant circulation pump (M13/5) remain connected.

3 Unscrew nut (32) and detach retaining clamp (33) MODEL 117, 156, 176, 242 (except 242.89), 246
IMPORTANT Retaining clamp (33) remains in vehicle.
 
4 Remove push button (42) on firewall MODEL 242.890  
5 Remove screw/bolt (40) and remove bracket (41) MODEL 242.890  
6 Remove charge air pipe downstream of turbocharger MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246 with ENGINE 651 AR09.41-P-8620OLB
7 Unscrew nut (5) and remove low-pressure line (4) from expansion valve (1) IMPORTANT Seal off opening of low-pressure line (4) using suitable stop plug.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing ring (11) of low-pressure line (4).
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut low-pressure and high-pressure line to expansion valve *BA83.30-P-1002-01G 
8 Unscrew nut (6) and remove high-pressure line (7) from expansion valve (1) IMPORTANT Seal opening of high pressure line (7) with a suitable stop plug.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing ring (11) of high-pressure line (7).
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut low-pressure and high-pressure line to expansion valve *BA83.30-P-1002-01G 
9 Remove screws/bolts (8) and remove expansion valve (1) INSTALLATION NOTES
If the screws/bolts (8) thread does not engage, pull forward threaded plate (12) using SPECIAL TOOL extraction hook, hold in place and screw in bolts (8) alternately.
Otherwise the expansion valve (1) may tilt on the connection fitting (9).
IMPORTANT Seal openings of connection fitting (9) using suitable stop plugs.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing rings (10) of connection fittings (9).
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt on expansion valve *BA83.30-P-1001-01G

10 Install in the reverse order
