MODIFICATION NOTES

4.9.08 Replace sealing ring by replacing chain tensioner - replaced Operation step 7  
REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, liftgates or sliding roof Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
1 Detach ground line from battery NOTES Insulate clamping device of the ground line in order to prevent inadvertent contact with the ground point of the battery. AR54.10-P-0003SX

2 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position    
3 Remove left and right intake air duct    
4 Remove front engine cover NOTES Do not tilt front engine cover, but lift upwards vertically otherwise the retaining lugs can break off.  
5 Partially remove poly-V belt (3) IMPORTANT The poly-V belt (3) must be removed from the alternator belt pulley (G2). AR13.22-P-1202SMG
6 Loosen alternator (G2) and lay down to side with connected lines   AR15.40-P-5032SMG
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.40-P-1001-01P 
SPECIAL TOOL External torx set Fig 2
7 Remove chain tensioner (1) from timing case cover INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace chain tensioner (1).  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA05.10-P-1008-01B 
8 Install in the reverse order    
9 Perform basic programming    
INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

10 Check for leaks with engine running
