Remove/install alternator - AR15.40-P-5032SMG

ENGINE 156 in MODEL 216, 221

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being pinched or crushed  when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lids, tailgates or sliding roof. Keep body parts and limbs well clear of moving parts. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury  caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries  caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.
Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.
Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

1 Disconnect ground line from battery NOTES Insulate ground line clamp as a protection against unintentional contact of dismounted ground line with ground point of battery.
IMPORTANT Vehicles with code 889, Keyless Go: Switch engine off, remove Keyless-Go cards from vehicle and store outside of transmitter range.

2 Open engine hood    
3 Remove front engine cover NOTES Do not tilt front engine cover, but lift upwards vertically otherwise the retaining lugs can break off.  
4 Remove right and left intake air duct    
5 Remove electric fan   AR20.40-P-5000SMG
6 Unscrew bolts (6) on bracket (7) IMPORTANT Only on model 221.
IMPORTANTRemoval:  During removal from alternator (G2) press holder (7) to the side.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.30-P-1003-01O 
7 Unclip engine wiring harness clip on alternator (G2)    
8 Raise vehicle with lifting platform   AR00.60-P-1000SX
9 Remove lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.20-P-1105SX
10 Remove poly-V belt   AR13.22-P-1202SMG
11 Detach clamp on transmission oil lines Only on model 221.  
12 Unscrew bottom bolts (5) for alternator IMPORTANT Then lower vehicle using the vehicle lift.  
13 Remove cap (1) and disconnect circuit 30 electrical line (B+) (3) at alternator (G2) by unscrewing nut (2) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.40-P-1002-01P 
14 Remove electrical line plug of tml. 61 (D+) (4) from alternator (G2)    
15 Unscrew top bolts (5) for alternator (G2)    
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA15.40-P-1001-01P 
16 Take alternator (G2) down and out    
17 Install in the reverse order    
18 Perform basic programming
