REMOVING Removing
IMPORTANT Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the front axle transmission (1). Even minute dirt particles can prevent the front axle transmission (1) from functioning correctly
1 Detach propeller shaft from front axle transmission (1) Model 216, 221 AR41.10-P-0070SYZ
    Model 204 AR41.10-P-0070CWX

2 Drain oil out of front axle transmission (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.30-P-1008-03G
3 Detach collar nut (4m) from drive flange (4) using SPECIAL TOOL retainer wrench and remove adjusting disk (4a) from drive flange (4) NOTES Counterhold SPECIAL TOOL retainer wrench using locking handle. A plastic wedge must be placed between the locking handle and front axle carrier in order to prevent damage.
IMPORTANT The SPECIAL TOOL retainer wrench is secured to the drive flange with just one bolt (4).
IMPORTANT The adjusting disk (4a) determines the bearing preload of the front axle transmission (1) and should therefore never be replaced. If the adjusting disk (4a) is lost, the front axle transmission (1) must be replaced.
SPECIAL TOOL
*164589000500
4 Mark position of drive flange (4) relative to input shaft (5)
5 Pull off drive flange (4) SPECIAL TOOL *203589023300
6 Pry radial sealing ring (2r) out of front axle transmission (1) using a suitable tool
7 Remove pinion housing   AR33.30-P-0469SYZ
INSTALLING Install
8 Fill front axle transmission (1) with oil via opening in pinion housing IMPORTANT The front axle transmission (1) does not have an oil filler hole and must be filled via the opening in the pinion housing.
