Inspect front axle joint for play, inspect rubber boots - AR33.00-P-3000SX

DANGERDanger!  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

1 Hoist vehicle with lifting platform until wheels are free   AR00.60-P-1000SX
INSPECT Checking     
2 Check rubber boots (7m) of supporting joints (7k) for leaktightness and condition IMPORTANT If the rubber boot (7m) is leaky, cracked or damaged, replace spring control arm (7): ↓
Remove/install, spring control arm at front axle:
 
    Model 221 without Active Body Control (ABC) without 4MATIC, except model 221.1 with code (Z07) Highest protection AR33.15-P-0170SX
    Model 216 without 4MATIC, model 221 with Active Body Control (ABC), code 487 AR33.15-P-0170SY 
    Model 221.1 with code (Z07) Top protection AR33.15-P-0170SXS
    Model 221, 216 with 4MATIC AR33.15-P-0170SYZ 
3 Check rubber boots (18m) on ball joints (18k) of torque struts (18) for leaktightness and condition IMPORTANT If rubber boot (18m) is leaky, cracked, or damaged, install new torque strut (18): ↓
Remove/install torque strut on the front axle.

4 Check rubber boots (10m) on joints (10k) of link rods (10) of stabilizer bar (11) for leaktightness and condition Vehicles with AIRmatic
IMPORTANT If rubber boot (10m) is leaky, cracked or damaged, install new link rod (10).
 
5 Check rubber boots (8m) on ball joints (8k) of upper transverse control arm (8) for leaks and condition IMPORTANT If rubber boot (8m) is leaky, cracked or damaged, replace upper transverse control arm (8): ↓
Remove/install upper wishbone:
Model 216, model 221 without Top protection
AR33.20-P-0500SX 
    Model 221.1 with code (Z07)) Highest protection AR33.20-P-0500SXS
6 Check rubber boots (9m) on ball joints (9k) of suspension struts (9) for leaktightness and condition IMPORTANT If the rubber boot (9m) is leaky, cracked or damaged, replace spring control arm (7): ↓
Remove/install, spring control arm at front axle:
 
    Model 221 without Active Body Control (ABC) without 4MATIC, except model 221.1 with code (Z07) Highest protection AR33.15-P-0170SX
    Model 216 without 4MATIC, model 221 with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) AR33.15-P-0170SY 
    Model 221.1 with code (Z07) Top protection AR33.15-P-0170SXS
    Model 221, 216 with 4MATIC AR33.15-P-0170SYZ 
7 Check supporting joints (7k) IMPORTANT Check supporting joints (7k) for play by pulling and pressing firmly. In the event of play, replace spring control arm (7): ↓
Remove/install, spring control arm at front axle:
 
    Model 221 without Active Body Control (ABC) without 4MATIC, except model 221.1 with code Z07 Highest protection AR33.15-P-0170SX
    Model 216 without 4MATIC, model 221 with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) AR33.15-P-0170SY 
    Model 221.1 with code (Z07) Top protection AR33.15-P-0170SXS
    Model 221, 216 with 4MATIC AR33.15-P-0170SYZ 
8 Check ball joints (18k) of torque struts (18) IMPORTANT Check ball joints (18k) for play by pulling and pressing firmly on the torque strut (18) for play. If play is found, install new torque strut (18): ↓
Remove/install torque strut on the front axle.

9 Check ball joints (10k) of link rods (10) of stabilizer bar (11) Vehicles with AIRmatic
IMPORTANT Check ball joints (10k) of link rods (10) for play by pulling and pushing on stabilizer bar (11). If play is found, install new link rod (10).
 
10 Check ball joints (8k) of upper transverse control arm (8) IMPORTANT Check ball joints (8k) for play by pulling and pressing firmly on the steering knuckles (12). If there is play: Replace upper transverse control arm (8): ↓
Remove/install upper wishbone:
 
    Model 216, model 221 without Top protection AR33.20-P-0500SX 
    Model 221.1 with code (Z07) Top protection AR33.20-P-0500SXS
11 Check ball joints (9k) of suspension struts (9) IMPORTANT Check ball joints (9k) for wear by pulling and pressing firmly on the suspension struts (9). In the event of play, replace spring control arm (7): ↓
Remove/install, spring control arm at front axle:
 
    Model 221 without Active Body Control (ABC) without 4MATIC, except model 221.1 with code (Z07) Highest protection AR33.15-P-0170SX
    Model 216 without 4MATIC, model 221 with code (487) Active Body Control (ABC) AR33.15-P-0170SY 
    Model 221.1 with code (Z07) Top protection AR33.15-P-0170SXS
    Model 221, 216 with 4MATIC AR33.15-P-0170SYZ
