Check Oil Level In Automatic Transmission And Add Oil If Necessary - Ar27.00-D-0101WE

WARNING Risk of burns and scalding when handling hot fluids and components they come into contact with. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes when handling hot fluids. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. Pour hot fluids in suitable containers only. AS00.00-Z-0033-01A
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A

INSPECT Check     
1 Park vehicle. NOTES
Park the vehicle aligned horizontally in the longitudinal and transverse direction. Otherwise measurement errors can occur which can result in malfunctions and transmission damage.
 
2 Remove locking pin (1) IMPORTANT Break off the plate of the locking pin (1) using a screwdriver and push out the pin remaining in the plug (2) in a downward direction.  
3 Remove plug (2)    
4 Pour in transmission oil via guide tube After opening transmission oil circuit or after replacing or repairing automatic transmission.  
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Automatic transmission fluids (ATF) (specification 236.15)   BB00.40-P-0236-15A
    NOTES
Observe the Specifications for Operating Fluids and use only approved transmission oils.
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
 
    FLUID SPECIFICATION Automatic transmission fluid ATF *BF27.00-N-1001-01A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Funnel
After replacement of automatic transmission

Pour in 10 l of transmission oil.
After opening oil circuit or repairing automatic transmission

Pour in quantity of transmission oil drained previously plus an additional 0.5 l of transmission oil.

5 Connect diagnostic system and check transmission oil temperature

    NOTES
The transmission oil level should only be checked at a transmission oil temperature of 35 °C (95 °F) or 75 °C (167 °F). It is also essential to observe all of the transmission oil temperatures specified below.
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
 
6 Heat up transmission oil to 90 °C (194 °F) After opening transmission oil circuit.
IMPORTANT Shift the automatic transmission to selector lever position "P" and keep the engine speed at 2500 RPM.
IMPORTANT The thermostat of the automatic transmission oil cooler opens at 90 °C (194 °F), and the automatic transmission oil cooler is filled and bled.
 
7 Allow transmission oil to heat up or cool down to 35 °C (95 °F) or 75 °C (167 °F) To heat up transmission oil

Shift the automatic transmission to selector lever position "P" and keep the engine speed at 2500 RPM.
To cool down transmission oil

Switch off engine.
 
8 Check transmission oil temperature NOTES
The transmission oil level should only be checked at a transmission oil temperature of 35 °C (95 °F) or 75 °C (167 °F).
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
 
9 Start engine IMPORTANT Leave the automatic transmission at selector lever position "P" and the engine running at idle speed.  
10 Insert oil dipstick (3) into guide tube up to end stop, pull out and read off oil level

    NOTES
The transmission oil level should only be checked at a transmission oil temperature of 35 °C (95 °F) or 75 °C (167 °F).
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
NOTES
Observe the Specifications for Operating Fluids and use only approved transmission oils.
Otherwise malfunctions and transmission damage can occur.
IMPORTANT At a transmission oil temperature of 35 °C (95 °F), the oil level must be between the measuring marks 3.5 and 5 (B). At a transmission oil temperature of 75 °C (167 °F), the oil level must be between the measuring marks 9.5 and 11 (A).
 
    FLUID SPECIFICATION Automatic transmission fluid ATF *BF27.00-N-1001-01A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Hand pump Fig 1
    SPECIAL TOOL Funnel Fig 2
    SPECIAL TOOL Dipstick Fig 3
    Oil level too low

Pour in transmission oil via guide tube.
Oil level too high

Extract transmission oil via guide tube.
 
11 Repeat procedure starting with operation step After pouring in or extracting transmission oil.  
12 Turn off engine    
13 Disconnect diagnostic system    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-D-2000-04SD
14 Attach plug (2) to filler pipe IMPORTANT Check sealing ring on plug (2) for damage and replace if necessary.  
15 Install new locking pin (1) in plug (2)
