DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. Do not perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained. AS83.00-Z-0001-01A

  Draining     
1 Unscrew dust caps (1, 4) from test and filler connections (2, 3) of refrigerant lines (A, L) and connect air conditioning service unit    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 04 82 00 Air conditioning service unit   WS83.00-P-0031B
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the air conditioning service unit.  
2 Extract refrigerant IMPORTANT Note down suctioned off oil fill capacity.  
  Evacuate     
3 Clean refrigerant and evacuate air conditioning system    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 04 82 00 Air conditioning service unit   WS83.00-P-0031B
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the air conditioning service unit.  
4 Perform vacuum check of air conditioning system IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the air conditioning service unit.
In the event of pressure loss:

Fill air conditioning with nitrogen and use leak detection spray to check connecting points for leakage. Subsequently drain the air conditioning again and rectify the cause of the pressure loss. Then check air conditioning system for leakage again.

  Filling     
5 Feed new compressor oil into refrigerant circuit NOTES
Pay attention to correct oil fill capacity. Otherwise refrigerant compressor may be damaged.
IMPORTANT Follow the operating instructions for the air conditioning service unit.
 
FLUID SPECIFICATION Total capacity of compressor oil in new A/C compressor See refill tables.
FLUID SPECIFICATION Total capacity of compressor oil in A/C system (incl. A/C compressor)
If A/C system components have been replaced

Consider additional quantities of compressor oil
NOTES
If the refrigerant compressor is removed, no more additional oil quantities may be added. Otherwise, this may lead to malfunction or damage of the air conditioning system.

6 Charge air conditioning system FLUID SPECIFICATION Total filling capacity, refrigerant See refill tables.
7 Disconnect air conditioning service unit and screw dust caps (1, 4) onto test and filler connections (2, 3) of refrigerant lines (A, L)    
INSPECT Check     
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
8 Test run engine and check air conditioning for proper operation at idle speed
