Check toe-out angle - AR40.20-P-0325SX

MODEL 216, 221.0/1

MODIFICATION NOTES

19.1.11 Value modified: Toe-out angle with inside wheel steered through 20°   *BE40.20-P-1001-08J
INSPECT Checking
1 Check toe at front axle and adjust if necessary See "Carry out wheel alignment check" AR40.20-P-0200SX
2 Check toe-out angle IMPORTANT The steering geometry is checked by measuring the toe-out angle. This is the difference in the steer angle between the outside wheel and the inside wheel when the inside wheel is steered through 20°.
If substantial deviations are found, the cause may be one of the following, assuming that the camber and caster settings are correct:
  • Toe not adjusted with the rack-and-pinion steering in the straight-ahead position, resulting in tie rods of unequal length.
  • Steering knuckle or tie rod bent.
  • On vehicle which have been involved in an accident:

Too large deviations in the front end (frame-longitudinal member, frame-crossmember, wheel well and firewall or on front axle carrier) which have an unfavorable effect on the adjustment ranges for camber and caster so that large differences in toe-out on turns result between left and right.
