The audio equipment provides the user with a structured and standard interface for the following system components, which can be operated using the Audio/COMAND control panel:

The following operations are possible with the Audio/COMAND controller (A40/9s11) of the Audio/COMAND control panel:
- Press: Vertically downwards
- Turn: Left or right
- Tilt: In four quadrants (Y and X direction) as well as in diagonal direction
- Manual emergency call, with code (347) Ecall Europa emergency call system
- AMG Performance Media, with code (255) AMG Performance Media

The Audio/COMAND control panel is a subscriber of the telematics CAN (CAN A).
Actuation of system components
The Audio/COMAND control panel can be used to actuate the audio equipment functions. With code (255) AMG Performance Media, the functions of the AMG Performance Media control unit (N125/3) can also be controlled using the Audio/COMAND control panel.
On vehicles with code (255) AMG Performance Media, the signals which the Audio/COMAND control panel sends on the telematics CAN, are always received first by the AMG Performance Media control unit and then if necessary forwarded to the audio equipment via the telematics CAN.
Schematic view of operating functions
On vehicles with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS incl. DVD changer, the following sliding movements of the audio/COMAND controller can be used for the map view during navigation:
- Slide to left front (in 10 to 11 o'clock direction)
- Slide to the left front (in 1 to 2 o'clock direction)
- Slide to left rear (in 7 to 8 o'clock direction)
- Slide to right rear (in 4 to 5 o'clock direction)
On vehicles with code (523) Radio MB Audio 20, with code (510) Audio 20 including CD changer, with code (525) Radio MB Audio 50 APS, with code (511) Audio 50 APS incl. DVD changer or with code (528) COMAND incl. DVD changer, these sliding movements of the audio/COMAND controller are not processed.
