Volume/tone adjustments, function - GF82.60-P-2003GZU
MODEL 164 with CODE (494) USA version with CODE (528) HIGH Class USA with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system) up to Model Year 2008
The signal processing required for the volume and tone settings is accomplished by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). Two versions are available:
- HIGH Class USA (code 528)
- COMAND APS USA (with navigation) (code 530)
If the vehicle is also equipped with the amplifier for the sound system (N40/3) (Sound System (code 810)) it provides for final application of the audio signals.
Audio sources are:
- Radio
- CD player
- 6-disk CD changer (code 819)
- Satellite Digital Audio Radio (satellite radio) (SDAR) (SIRIUS satellite radio (code 536))
Service sources include:
- Voice output for navigation
- Telephone
- Traffic announcement
- Weatherband info channel
Volume setting
The volume can be adjusted with the push/rotary switch for "ON" and "OFF" and volume control on the COMAND operating, display and control unit for each audio source set as well as for voice output for navigation and telephone.
The volume can also be controlled with the + and - buttons on the multifunction steering wheel when set to specific functions and volume control (S111s1)
Automatic volume control
A speed-dependent volume control and volume control which adapts to the interior noise in the vehicle are available depending on the vehicle equipment.
- Speed-dependent volume control without Sound-System
The volume is adapted to the vehicle speed by the speed-dependent volume control. In this case, the speed signal is used as the reference value.
- Interior noise-dependent volume control With Sound system
The sound system amplifier is equipped with a dynamic volume adaptation feature. The interior noise is measured by a separate sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) for dynamic volume adaptation. The volume is adapted dynamically to the noise present in the interior compartment on the basis of the interior volume measured.
Mute
If the user presses the "MUTE" function key, the audio source currently audible is muted. If the CD changer (A2/6) or internal CD drive is in operation, it is switched to pause. The muting can be initiated automatically.
When the "MUTE" function key is pressed a second time, or the pushbutton/rotary switch for the volume is actuated, muting is canceled.
The volume of any active audio source is automatically muted during a telephone call to ensure minimum distortion to the voice input from the user on the hands-free system microphone group (A67b1).
If the "MUTE" function key is pressed in the navigation mode, the voice guidance is switched off. Voice guidance can be switched back on with the "RPT" function key.
If the "Mute" function key is pressed in the satellite radio mode, muting is accomplished until the "Mute" button is pressed again or the system is switched over to another audio source. Pressing the pushbutton/rotary switch for the volume also cancels the muting mode.
If an emergency call is triggered by the TELE AID emergency call system (code 359), the audio sources and service sources are automatically muted.
Tone setting
The COMAND operating, display and control unit allows manual tone settings for each audio source.
The tone settings include:
- Treble and bass
- Balance/fader
- Sound (only with sound system (code 810))
Treble and bass
The display for adjusting the treble and bass appears when the "Bass" or "Treble" soft key on the right multifunction key strip (audio function) is pressed.
The bass and treble can be adjusted with the "left" and "right" arrow keys on the joystick. The set value is stored when the "OK" key on the joystick is pressed. If the operator waits until the display changes, the value is also stored.
Differentiated treble and bass control is possible with the following features:
- Radio (AM, FM, weatherband Info channel)
- CD drive and CD changer
- MP3-CD
- AUX
- Satellite Digital Audio Radio (Satellite radio)
Balance/fader
The balance and fader settings are possible with the following features:
- Radio (AM, FM, weatherband Info channel)
- CD drive and CD changer
- MP3-CD
- AUX
- Satellite Digital Audio Radio (satellite radio)
When the "Bal/Fad" soft key on the right multifunction key strip (audio function) is pressed, the display for adjusting the balance and fader appears. The display shows a horizontal and vertical line which intercept. The horizontal line represents the fader and the vertical line, the balance.
The balance can be set with the "left" and "right" arrow keys on the joystick and the fader with the "up" and "down" arrow keys. The balance and fader can be adjusted simultaneously with the "/" and "\\" buttons.
Setting is stored when the "OK" button on the joystick or the "Back" soft key in the right multifunction key strip is pressed. If the operator waits until the display changes, the value is also stored.
The setting applies for the current function, however, it is not automatically stored for the other functions.
SOUND
(with sound system)
Sound settings are possible with the following features:
- Radio (AM, FM, weatherband Info channel)
- CD drive and CD changer
- MP3-CD
- AUX
- Satellite Digital Audio Radio (Satellite radio)
The following settings are possible:
- "Default Settings"
Bass, Treble, Balance/Fader
- "Standard"
Play back is focused on the center of the vehicle
- "Speech"
Play back is optimized for voice output
- "LOGIC7"
Surround output
The desired setting can be selected with the "up" and "down" arrow keys and the setting stored with the "OK" key on the joystick.
