Audio functions - GF82.60-P-2000GZU

MODEL 164 with CODE (494) USA version with CODE (528) HIGH Class USA with CODE (530) COMAND APS USA (with navigation system) up to Model Year 2008 

Radio 

The roof antenna module (A2/93) filters the amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) signals, amplifies them, and relays them to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3). The AM and FM signals (including the weatherband (WB)) are demodulated by the radio receiver for AM or FM, where the wanted signal is amplified and emitted over the vehicle speakers.

With code (810) Sound system, the audio signals are digitized and transmitted by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3). There, the audio signals are processed, amplified and then output to the vehicle speaker.

WB 

The weatherband (WB) channel is a free information channel which can be received anywhere in the country offering additional regional information such as weather forecasts, weather warnings and warnings of other hazards. The weatherband (WB) consists of a national network of radio stations which continually broadcast information. The network for this generally accessible service was called into existence by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and is currently managed by the Federal Government of the USA. This service is broadcast on 7 FM radio frequencies.

Radio functions 

Control function FM/AM/WB 

One display each is present for FM/AM and WB. These displays can be selected below the Audio menu by means of the soft keys in the left multifunction buttons.

Pressing the "AM/FM" soft key switches over between FM and AM.

Satellite digital audio radio (satellite radio) (SDAR) (with code (536) SIRIUS satellite radio) 

The receiver system consists of the SDAR control unit (N87/5) and the SDAR antenna (A2/93a5), which is integrated in the roof antenna module. The SDAR control unit is connected to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via MOST.

The SIRIUS preview channel is displayed to the user when the "SAT" control button (hard key) is pressed. This is the only receivable, free digital radio station in the program.

If the full radio program subject to fees is desired by the user, it is necessary for the user to first register with a provider.

The data required for registration can be displayed to the user by pressing the "Service" soft key in the base SAT menu.

IMPORTANT The SDAR control unit (3rd generation) has been used since modification year 07/1, and now it is also available for vehicles with code (460) Additional parts, Canadian vehicles. The SDAR control unit (3rd generation) differs from the previous generation on account of the following properties:

After successful identification, the receiver system is activated by the provider via satellite. Then, all 100 satellite stations presently available can be received by the user. The maximum number of stations that can be received is 224.

The receivable digital radio stations are classified according to music styles and supplementary categories: These are:

The categories can be selected by the user with the horizontal motion buttons on the joystick. Scrolling in the selected music category is possible with the vertical motion buttons.

Playing audio CDs 

The single CD drive below the hinged color display on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and the CD changer (A2/6) (Code (819) 6-disk CD changer) are capable of playing audio CDs (in Red Book audio format). Both units support processing of CD text information. A mechanism allows the color display on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to be moved downward so that the CD slot is accessible for the user. The "Disk Eject" button is located behind the display.

The single CD drive of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and the CD changer (code (819) 6-disk CD changer) have different menu interfaces.

IMPORTANTDVD drive 

The DVD drive is not intended for playing video media such as DVD video, CD video or similar, or audio CDs.

Audio output in rear 

With code (519) Rear audio system, it is possible to output audio signals over the headphone connections on the rear control panel control unit.

The audio signals are transferred from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the rear audio control unit (N66/8) by direct wiring. There, the audio signals are amplified and transferred directly to the HBF control unit for output to the headphones. The volume for the headphones can be adjusted on the HBF control unit. Use only headphones with an internal resistance of 32 Ω.

The audio source can be selected on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The rear audio output is switched off at the factory. The menu for the rear audio output can be opened in the Audio menu and by pressing the "Rear" soft key. The audio source for the rear can be selected with this menu. It is not necessary for the audio source in the rear to be the same as that in the front.

Displays in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1) 

Audio function control using the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) 

The MFL is connected to the instrument cluster and the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the:

IMPORTANT The audio displays are indicated in the multifunction display on the instrument cluster only when the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is switched on.

An external analog audio source can be connected to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the AUX jack in the glove box. Data exchange via a discrete line.

Radio mode

The system selection button (S110s3) and the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) can be used to set the required radio station.

Satellite radio mode 

Display in satellite radio mode:

Channel selection is effected using the scroll forward/back button.

CD player mode 

Displays in CD player mode:

The system selection button can be used to select a CD and the scroll forward/back button to select a track.
