Operating buttons
Processing of the signals for the required volume and tone adjustments is performed by the radio (A2). If the vehicle is additionally equipped with the amplifier for sound system (N40/3), (sound system, code 810), this amplifier provides the final amplification of the audio signals.
Audio sources are:
- Radio
- CD player
- 6-disk CD changer, code 819
Service sources include:
- Telephone
- Traffic announcement
Volume
When the volume is set, the radio automatically saves the setting for the currently active mode.
If the vehicle has been equipped with a telephone in the factory, the volume can be adjusted separately from the audio volume during telephone operation.
A volume increase can be selected for traffic announcements.
Volume setting
The volume is set using the rotary switch for volume control of the radio for each of the selected audio sources.
The volume can also be controlled via the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) using the buttons + and - for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1).
Tone setting
The radio allows the sound to be adjusted for each audio source. The tone settings include:
- Treble and bass
- Balance/fader
- Sound, only with sound system, code 810
To access the desired screen display, it may be necessary to operate a control button more than once.
Depending on the tone setting, the function keys are allocated different functions. The functions that can currently be selected for the type of tone setting are then shown in the display above the particular function key.
Treble and bass
The treble and bass are stored separately for AM (MW, LW, SW), FM, CD mode, and telephone mode.
"BASS" or "TREBLE" appears in the display when the tone setting button is pressed one or 2 times. The desired function is selected via the function keys.
The "+" or "-" functions can be used to set the desired sound. The "RES" function can be used to restore the setting to the mean value.
The radio switches back to the normal radio menu approx. eight seconds after the last entry.
Fader and balance
"FADER" appears in the display when the volume distribution button is pressed one time.
The desired function is selected via the function keys.
The volume can be distributed between front and rear using the " " or " " functions.
The "RES" function can be used to restore the setting to the mean value.
The radio switches back to the normal radio menu approx. eight seconds after the last entry.
"BALANCE" appears in the display when the volume distribution button is pressed two times.
The desired function is selected via the function keys.
The volume can be distributed between right and left using the "<<<" or ">>>" functions.
The "RES" function can be used to restore the setting to the mean value.
The radio switches back to the normal radio menu approx. eight seconds after the last entry.
Sound (with sound system, code 810)
Three settings are available:
- STANDARD:
Normal stereo reproduction
- SURROUND:
For a better spatial audio impression
- SPEECH:
Sound setting for the best possible speech reproduction
"STANDARD", "SURROUND", or "SPEECH" appears in the display when the tone setting button is pressed.
The desired function is selected via the function keys.
The desired tone setting can be selected using the "<<<" or ">>>" functions.
The tone can be reset depending on the active sound source using the "RES" function.
- Radio operation: to STANDARD
- CD/AUX operation: to SURROUND
- Telephone: to SPEECH
The radio switches back to the normal radio menu approx. eight seconds after the last entry.
