Function requirements, general

Voice control, general

The voice control system (VCS [SBS]) can be used to call up and operate the individual functions of the driver information system by voice control. The voice control system is integrated into the radio and navigation unit (A2/56). The system can be controlled by voice by spelling out or entering complete words.

Operating instructions

The VCS [SBS] is activated or deactivated via the following buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):

IMPORTANT As of 1.7.09, when the voice control is active, the blower output of the blower motor (A32m1) will be reduced to avoid any misinterpretation during voice input. Regulation is carried out using the AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22) (without code (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning) or the comfort AAC [KLA] control and operating unit (N22/7) (with code (581) Comfort automatic air conditioning).

Voice control function sequence

The control signal from the VCS [SBS] on button and the VCS [SBS] off button is transferred to the radio and navigation unit via the following path:

Voice input is via the handsfree system microphone group. The words spoken are converted into an electrical signal via the handsfree system microphone group and then forwarded to the radio and navigation unit via direct lines.

On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, voice output is performed by means of audio signals from the radio and navigation unit via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) and from there, via direct lines, to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT The audio signal for the subwoofer (H4/29) travels from the radio and navigation unit to the amplifier for the sound system via MOST and from there, via direct lines to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.

IMPORTANT In vehicles without code (810) Sound system, voice output is performed by means of audio signals by the radio and navigation unit via direct lines and the following speakers:
