Function requirements 

IMPORTANT Various mobile phones can be connected to the communications control unit over the cell phone separation point using the preinstalled adapter cable.

IMPORTANT A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone can only be operated in the vehicle when a mobile phone is not connected to the cell phone separation point or the adapter cable.

IMPORTANT In order to be able to operate a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone authorized at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support the handsfree profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5. More information is available under:

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, read access to the telephone book in the mobile phone is possible when the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth Profile Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP).

General 

The mobile phone can be used by the user to initiate or terminate a telephone call to another person in the mobile phone system network or the fixed-line network.

The establish call and terminate call function consists of the following subfunctions:

The system is described using a mobile phone connected to the cell phone separation point and the mobile phone adapter cable as an example. Deviations from this are indicated with the symbol. IMPORTANT

Operating instructions 

A telephone call can be established or terminated using the:

Establish call function sequence using mobile phone buttons 

Dialing the telephone number using the buttons on the mobile phone or selecting the telephone number from the mobile phone's telephone book and pressing the "Accept call button" initiates the telephone call in handsfree mode.

The control signals from the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operating with Bluetooth, the control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. They are not forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The telephone call is completed in "Private mode" when the mobile phone supports "Private mode" "Private mode" is activated.

Function sequence, establish call via telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit 

After dialing the telephone number via the telephone buttons on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and pressing the "Accept phone call" button or by selecting the telephone function via the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and then activating the "TRANSMIT" function, the telephone call is completed in handsfree mode. The "Telephone (Tel)" base function is selected using the "Tel" hard key on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or via the "Tel" menu item in the application bar using the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit and is then displayed on the screen of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

The following ways of dialing a telephone number are available to the user here:

The name of the person who you wish to call can be selected in the address book and the call lists by scrolling up and down. The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally. The menu item is also indicated internally on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Function sequence, establish call using left and right multifunction steering wheel button group 

The address book of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit is selected by pressing the system selection (S110s3) button via the selection menu in the instrument cluster (A1).

The name of the person to be called is selected by scrolling up and down in the address book of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit using the scroll up and down button (S110s1).

The accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) can be used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree system.

The control signals from the left and right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following components:

Display in the instrument cluster is accomplished by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the interior CAN.

Function sequence, establish call using voice control system 

The voice control of the VCS [SBS] is activated by pressing the VCS On button (S111s4) of the right multifunction steering wheel button group.

The control signal from the VCS [SBS] button is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following components:

A signal tone is emitted after the voice control system has been activated.

The signal tone is transmitted by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit for vehicles with code (810) Sound System via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the Sound System amplifier (N40/3).

From there, the signal tone is transmitted via direct lines to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker (H4/29) travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the sound system amplifier via MOST and from there, over direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.

Now different voice commands can be used to search and select a telephone number.

The voice commands are received by the handsfree system microphone group (A67b1) and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over a direct line. The voice control of the voice control system (VCS [SBS]) is used to establish the telephone call in the handsfree mode.

IMPORTANT The individual voice commands are listed in the "Linguatronic operator's manual".

IMPORTANT On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the signal tone is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the following speakers via direct lines:

Function sequence, establish call using navigation mode 

If a telephone number is stored for a point of interest (POI), the user can select it using the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or via the voice control of the VCS [SBS]. The telephone call is then established in handsfree mode. The control signals from the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

The VCS [SBS] signals are transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the same route as for "Function sequence, establish telephone call via VCS [SBS]".

Function sequence, establish call for phone call in handsfree mode 

After the telephone call is established, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit transmits and receives the mobile phone signals and data via the following route:

The voice input in the handsfree mode is received by the handsfree system microphone group and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over a direct line.

On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, voice output is performed by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the amplifier for sound system and from there, via direct lines, to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the amplifier for the sound system over MOST and from there, via direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier and then to the subwoofer speaker.

IMPORTANT On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, via direct lines, to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data via the Bluetooth antenna (A2/91) and the mobile phone antenna, except when the telephone call is established using the mobile phone buttons. In the event of establishing a telephone call using the mobile phone buttons, the mobile phone transmits or receives the mobile phone signals or data via the mobile phone antenna. Voice input takes place using the microphone integrated in the mobile phone and voice output is emitted via the speakers integrated into the mobile phone ("private mode").

IMPORTANT In "Private mode" the user can make a call without other passengers in the vehicle being able to participate in the conversation when the mobile phone supports "Private mode" and "Private mode" is activated.

Terminate call function sequence using mobile phone buttons 

Pressing the "QUIT" button on the mobile phone terminates the telephone call. The control signals from the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operating with Bluetooth, the control signals from the buttons on the mobile phone are processed internally. They are not forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

Function sequence, terminate call via telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit 

The telephone call is terminated by pressing the "END" button on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit or by activating the "END" function in the "Telephone (Tel)" base function. The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

Function sequence, terminate call using left and right multifunction steering wheel button group 

The accept/terminate phone call button terminates the telephone call. The control signals from the left and right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over the following components:

Function sequence, call termination 

After completing a telephone call, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit discontinues transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals and data. This is accomplished internally in the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit discontinues transmission or reception of the mobile phone signals and data in an internal control unit procedure except when a call is terminated using the buttons on the mobile phone.

When a telephone call is terminated using the mobile phone buttons, the mobile phone interrupts the transmission or reception of mobile phone signals or data. This process runs internally in the mobile phone.
