Function requirements 

IMPORTANT Various mobile phones can be connected to the communications control unit over the cell phone separation point using the preinstalled adapter cable.

IMPORTANT A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone can only be operated in the vehicle when a mobile phone is not connected to the cell phone separation point or the adapter cable.

IMPORTANT In order to be able to operate a Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone authorized at the COMAND operating, display and controller unit in the vehicle, the mobile phone must support the handsfree profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5. More information is available under:

General 

The mobile phone can be used by the user to initiate, terminate or toggle a telephone call to another person in the cellular telephone system network or in the fixed-line network.

The call accept function consists of the following subfunctions:

The system is described using a mobile phone connected to the cell phone separation point and the mobile phone adapter cable as an example. Deviations from this are indicated with the symbol.

Operating instructions 

It is possible to accept, reject or toggle a call using the following components:

Function sequence, call signal 

The mobile phone receives a call signal from the telephone antenna (A2/93a3) via a direct line and cell phone separation point.

The caller is shown on the display of the mobile phone and the information is forwarded simultaneously to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit outputs the ring tone via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the amplifier for sound system (N40/3) and from there, via direct lines, to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT With the subwoofer speaker (H4/29) the audio signal for the ring tone travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via MOST to the amplifier for sound system and from there, via direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier (N40/9) and then to the subwoofer speaker.

IMPORTANT On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the ring tone is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the following speakers via direct lines:

The caller identification is indicated by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit on the display of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The caller identification is also shown on the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster (A1) via the interior CAN (CAN B).

IMPORTANT A mobile phone operated with Bluetooth receives the call signal via the mobile phone antenna. Then the call signal is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

Accept call function sequence using mobile phone buttons 

Pressing the "Accept call" button on the mobile phone serves to accept the call in handsfree mode. The control signals from the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the control signals from the mobile phone buttons are processed internally and forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

Function sequence, accept call via telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit 

When the "Accept phone call" button is pressed or the "Accept" function is selected in the "Telephone (Tel)" base function, the call is accepted in handsfree mode. The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

The call is accepted in handsfree mode by pressing the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3) in the corresponding subfield. The control signal from the accept and terminate telephone call button is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following components:

After accepting the call, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit receives or transmits the mobile phone signals and data over the following path:

The voice input in the handsfree mode is received by the handsfree system microphone group (A67b1) and transferred to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit over a direct line.

On vehicles with code (810) Sound system, the voice output is accomplished by the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, via the MOST and sound system amplifier to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT The audio signal for the subwoofer speaker travels from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit to the amplifier for the sound system over MOST and from there, via direct lines, to the subwoofer amplifier and then to the subwoofer speaker.

IMPORTANT On vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is transmitted from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, via direct lines, to the following speakers:

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit receives or transmits the mobile phone signals or data via the following route:

IMPORTANT Generally, a telephone connection is established in handsfree mode after accepting a call, regardless of whether the mobile phone is connected to the adapter cable.

If a mobile phone connected to the adapter cable is separated from the adapter cable after the telephone connection has been established in handsfree mode, and therefore separated from the COMAND operating, display and controller unit, the telephone call is then continued in "Private mode". If the mobile phone is connected again to the adapter cable during the course of a call, the telephone call is continued in handsfree mode again.

With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, it is possible to change over to "Private mode" after accepting a telephone call in handsfree mode by activating "Private mode" in the mobile phone when the mobile phone supports "Private mode".

IMPORTANT When in "private mode" the user can make a telephone call without other vehicle occupants being able to hear the conversation.

Reject call function sequence using mobile phone buttons 

Pressing the "End" button on the mobile phone rejects the call. The control signals from the mobile phone buttons are internally processed and forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

IMPORTANT With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, the control signals from the mobile phone buttons are processed internally and forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following route:

Function sequence, reject call via telephone buttons or keypad on COMAND operating, display and controller unit 

The call can be held by pressing the "End" button once or by selecting the "Accept" function in the "Telephone (Tel)" base function via the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The call is rejected when the "End" button is pressed 2 times or the "Reject" function is activated in the "Telephone (Tel)" base function via the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

Pressing the accept/terminate phone call button in the corresponding subfield rejects the call. The control signal from the accept and terminate telephone call button is forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and controller unit via the following components:

If a new call signal arrives while a call is already in progress, the COMAND operating, display and controller unit indicates this on the display on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit. The new incoming call can then be accepted or rejected with the telephone buttons or by activating the "Accept" function or "Reject" function in the "Telephone (Tel)" base function via the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit.

The control signals from the telephone buttons or the keypad on the COMAND operating, display and controller unit are processed internally.

If the incoming call is accepted, it is activated in handsfree mode and the existing call is put on hold. If the incoming call is rejected, the existing call remains active in handsfree mode.
