Door inside handle illumination function 

Function requirements 

• Circuit 15R ON
• "Night" signal (2) from rain/light sensor
• Standing lamp signal circuit 58d ON (3)

The door inside handle illumination is switched on undimmed by the corresponding door control unit and rear SAM control unit if the function requirements are met.

The lights are switched off undimmed under the following conditions:

• at circuit 58d Off and at a speed in excess of 10 km/h,
• after an OFF delay time of 5 min after circuit 58d Off or
• after circuit 58d and circuit 15C Off when the vehicle is locked

The OFF delay time after switching off the vehicle illumination can be set using STAR DIAGNOSIS in a range of 1 to 10 min.

Search and function illumination 

The brightness of all illuminated controls is automatically adapted by a phototransistor integrated into the instrument cluster to the level of brightness in the vehicle interior. The pushbutton switches instrument and controls illumination button, bright (A1s4) and instrument and controls illumination button, dim (A1s5) on the instrument cluster can be used to set the brightness to suit individual needs.

The signal (circuit 58d) to actuate dimming of the switch and controls illumination is sent from the instrument cluster. To generate this signal, the instrument cluster evaluates the status of the exterior lamp switch and the status of the rain/light sensor.

The switch and controls illumination in the overhead control panel control unit switches on when one of the front doors is opened or closed (no circuit 58d from instrument cluster) and remains switched on for 30 s. If one of the doors is opened or closed again, the OFF delay time is restarted. If the vehicle is locked, the switch and controls illumination is immediately switched off.
