Function requirements 

• Status "Circuit 30 ON" or "Circuit 15R ON"
• COMAND control unit (A40/3) activated via the "ON" button (A40/9s6) on the front central operating unit (A40/9)
• Current navigation data loaded

General 

The route guidance through voice output function is a comfort function that assists the driver during a journey without diverting his/her attention from the traffic. The destination-oriented navigation of the navigation system is primarily supported by voice outputs with the following information:

• Route summary (following route calculation, a route summary is output)
• Warning at freeway approach roads
• Turning recommendations
• Junction names
• Corners
• Railroad crossings
• Prefecture limits
• Vehicle Information and Communication System (VICS) and
• Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) information

The voice output of the navigation system features the following languages:

• Japanese
• English

The following messages are also issued during route guidance through voice output:

• Destination, intermediate destination or stopover reached
• Influence of route by traffic information
• Start of route calculation

In the following instances a special instruction is issued during voice output:

• Destination in area with restricted traffic access
• Route via ferry
• Route via toll road

Function sequence 

The voice output signals are sent, if required, via the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) to the audio tuner control unit (N93/1), where they are amplified and - on model 221 - sent via direct lines to the following speakers:

• Left front door speaker group (H4/1), except code (810) Sound system
• Right front door speaker group (H4/2), except code (810) Sound system
• Left rear door speaker group (H4/3)
• Right rear door speaker group (H4/4)
• Bass box speaker (H4/17)
• Center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27)
• Left rear surround speaker (H4/54), with code (810) Sound system
• Right rear surround speaker (H4/57), with code (810) Sound system
• Left front door sound tweeter (H4/68), with code (810) Sound system
• Right front door sound tweeter (H4/69), with code (810) Sound system
• Left front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72), with code (810) Sound system
• Right front door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73), with code (810) Sound system

On model 216 the voice is output through the following speakers:

• Left door rear speaker (H4/3)
• Right door rear speaker (H4/4)
• Bass box speaker
• Center cockpit speaker (centerfill)
• Left rear surround speaker
• Right rear surround speaker
• Left door sound tweeter (H4/68)
• Right door sound tweeter (H4/69)
• Left door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/72)
• Right door sound woofer and midrange speaker group (H4/73)

When voice output is active the announcement volume can be adjusted using the following components:

• Via the front central operating unit
• With the + and, for setting specific functions and volume control (S111s1) in the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111)
